Overview of Position
The Library of the University of California, Davis, seeks an energetic, innovative, collaborative, and user-focused librarian to work closely with faculty, students, staff, and institutional stakeholders in a highly interdisciplinary academic community. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing outreach, education and resources in support of student learning, academic programs, and faculty teaching and research. S/he must be able to work effectively with faculty, students, researchers, and staff to develop a shared vision for library services and collections aligned with the University Library’s mission and vision.

Position Responsibilities
• Reporting to the Head of the Research Services Department, the librarian delivers responsive, innovative information services that support the needs of the College of School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) and School of Medicine (SoM), and the university community working in the health sciences.
• Primary liaison areas for this position will be departments within SVM; SoM on both the Davis and Sacramento campuses with particular emphasis on the Department of Public Health Sciences; the California National Primate Research Center; and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
• As liaisons, the librarian cultivates and maintains strong working relationships with faculty; maintains an understanding of the research and teaching programs in assigned areas; promotes faculty and student liaison activities; develops and participates in UC Davis and University of California-wide cooperative initiatives, services, and collections; and collaborates with other librarians within the UC Davis Library to deliver timely and effective services and to develop resource collections to meet the dynamic growth of the campus research and teaching needs.
• Major activities conducted by the librarian include research support and educational services; collection development and management responsibilities within an academic research institution in collaboration with the Collection Strategies Department; and outreach covering a variety of relevant topics, including Library resources and services, literature searching, and access to research data and scholarship. Outreach activities are directed at faculty, researchers, staff, and students generally and to targeted populations such as new faculty and research centers on both the Davis and Sacramento campuses.
• The incumbent’s duties include, but are not limited to, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating appropriate educational and research support services in health sciences disciplines, and preparing reports regarding ongoing services and special projects, including the generation and interpretation of data that informs decisions and demonstrates the UC Davis Library’s value to the UC Davis community and beyond.
• UC Davis librarians are expected to participate in library and system-wide conversations and planning, to be able to work comfortably in a collegial environment, and to be active professionally.
• Advancement in the Librarian series is based in part on professional contributions beyond the primary assignment; the successful candidate will show evidence or promise of such contributions.

Required Qualifications for the Position

• Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent
• Two or more years of experience supporting research or learning in a library, research and/or teaching environment
• Demonstrated familiarity with health sciences resources and collection management activities in an academic or research library
• Demonstrated understanding of library support of curricula across the range of health sciences educational programs
• Demonstrated understanding and ability to determine information and research needs of students, faculty, scientists, and researchers and to effectively develop and deliver responsive services using a variety of tools
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple constituencies in a complex and rapidly changing environment such as setting goals, managing time, promoting teamwork, and meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated effective use of analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Knowledge of assessment and evaluation theories and practices
• Evidence of flexibility and initiative when working within a fast-paced, changing environment
• Demonstrated strong commitment to user services and improving the user experience

Preferred Qualifications for the Position
• Undergraduate or higher degree in the health sciences OR two years working experience as a health sciences librarian
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use and successfully experiment with technologies to deliver information services to health sciences clientele
• Familiarity with the way scientists and researchers work with government information and technical report literature
• Familiarity with research data management or curation
• Demonstrated project management skills
• Successful experience in developing and managing relevant collections in an academic library
• Knowledge of scholarly communications issues, tools, and resources
• Record of professional engagement, such as service in library organizations, presentations at conferences, or publication
