Job Description/Responsibilities

Stanford University is currently seeking a Library Assistant to work with the Information Manager in the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) library services operations, fulfilling requests from fellows and scholars. 

This includes visits to Stanford’s Green Library and weekly visits to Stanford’s satellite libraries.  The Library Assistant performs tasks under general supervision, exercising some initiative. 

Will also be responsible for:

  • Providing basic reference assistance.
  • Performing routine circulation functions, such as charges, discharges, and holds.
  • Performing routine catalog maintenance, receiving, and/or copy cataloging.
  • Compiling basic container lists or indexes of archival materials.
  • Collecting and maintainin library statistics; may produce reports for management.
  • May be responsible for opening and closing activities.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • Two-year college degree plus one or more years of experience in an academic library, or a combination of education and relevant experience. 
  •  Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate library policy.
  • Ability to apply judgment in choosing procedures and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to learn library operational skills.
  • Basic leadership skills.
  • Valid California non-commercial driver’s license.
