Description

If so, the Sacramento Public Library is looking for passionate, dedicated individuals to join our team as a Library Assistant. This position performs a wide variety of technical and clerical duties that support the circulation of library materials, issues library cards, takes fines and payments, provides information regarding library services, policies and procedures and the location and use of library materials and equipment.
The Sacramento Public Library is the fourth largest library system in California, serving more than 1.4 million residents in the City and County of Sacramento, including the incorporated cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Isleton, and Rancho Cordova. The system is a Joint Powers Authority, governed by a 15 member board comprised of elected officials from each of the member jurisdictions, with representation based on each jurisdiction's population. The Authority operates 28 libraries, including the Central Library in downtown Sacramento and has over 300 staff members, contains a collection of 1.5 million volumes and has an annual budget of $50 million. More than 700 thousand residents have library cards and 8 million items are circulated annually. The Library welcomes more than 4 million visitors annually. This position performs a wide variety of tasks that support the circulation of materials while engaging regularly with the public.
Minimum education requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (submit attachment of high school diploma, GED, HSE, or official school transcript).

- Availability to work between library hours of operation: Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Flexibility to work with short notice and at various library branches
- Flexibility to work regular evenings and weekends

- Ability to comfortably work with the public while wearing personal protective equipment and following safety procedures
- Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment while simultaneously paying attention to detail and delivering accurate work
