PT Reference/Instruction Librarian Pool - CSU East Bay - Hayward, CA

The University Libraries of California State University, East Bay is establishing a pool of librarians (Assistant Librarian rank) for temporary, part-time employment for the 2011/2012 academic year (July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012).

Duties of the Position: Members of the part-time librarian pool participate in one or both assignment areas under the general direction of the Chair of Library Faculty:

  1. Teach credit courses and other instructional sessions in the Libraries’ Information Literacy program. Credit classes may be taught face-to-face, online, or in a hybrid format.
  2. Provide quality reference service to CSUEB undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and other library patrons during weekdays, weeknights, and/or weekends. Provide point-of-use instruction in the use of the online catalog, electronic databases, and other library resources. Perform other duties as assigned, which may include developing bibliographic source guides and/or Internet-based tools; assisting in collection development and collection management process and projects, and providing service at CSUEB’s Hayward campus or Concord campus in Contra Costa County.

Qualifications: Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited institution; familiarity with the principles of information literacy; recent teaching experience, particularly in an online/hybrid environment, and/or education in teaching methods; recent experience and/or education in the provision of academic reference services; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work collegially in a diverse, fast-paced environment; a strong service commitment; a willingness and ability to serve students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with recent professional experience in reference or instruction in an academic setting. Preference will also be given to candidates able to work regular shifts on nights and week-ends, and who are able to work at our Concord campus if needed.

Date of Appointment: Effective July 1, 2011.
