YOU ARE INVITED TO APPLY: The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Free Library (MCFL) are conducting a recruitment for the position of Library Circulation Supervisor (Library Desk Supervisor) for the Corte Madera branch library. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies that may occur at other branch libraries while the list remains active. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six (6) months.

MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY AND THE CORTE MADERA BRANCH: With a mission to engage the community, provide innovative library services and foster lifelong learning, the MCFL serves the unincorporated areas of Marin County, as well as, the cities and towns of Corte Madera, Fairfax, Marin City, Ross, and Novato. Along with a dedicated share of a stable local property tax, the MCFL enjoys broad community support as shown by the recent passage of a supplemental parcel tax by more than 74%. Through the activities of the County’s ten-branch library system, the MCFL offers an expansive collection; digital content; public access computers; free wi-fi; AV and print resources; special programming for children, teens and seniors; literacy programs serving both families and individuals; and study space for students of all ages.

Nestled in the hills of Southern Marin and conveniently located near the community center, town park, and highway 101, the Corte Madera branch library serves as a cornerstone and meeting place for town residents by providing a variety of community events such as story times for toddlers and preschoolers, "Read to a Dog" sponsored by the Marin Humane Society, book clubs, guest speakers, and other educational events. The Corte Madera location has the second highest circulation within the ten-branch library system and the highest percentage of checkouts completed through the self checkout process (typically 70 – 80%). The Corte Madera branch also provides oversight and support to the Marin City branch.

THE POSITION: Reporting to the Corte Madera Branch Manager, the Library Circulation Supervisor will oversee the operation of the library circulation desk and supervise a team consisting of a Library Assistant II, a Library Assistant I, Library Branch Aides, and several volunteers. Primary responsibility for the Library Circulation Supervisor will be overall management of the branch’s library collection including books, magazines, displays, and online collection and assisting patrons with complex questions. Additionally, the Library Circulation Supervisor will promote the library’s programs and serve as a role-model providing quality customer service. As a member of the Corte Madera supervisory team, the Library Circulation Supervisor will provide feedback and recommendations regarding reference coordination and circulation functions, as well as, serve as a member of MCFL’s Library Circulation Supervisors team responsible for addressing the overarching circulation needs impacting the MCFL system.

The Library Circulation Supervisor will also be responsible for the assisting with the following key projects:

· “Lucky Day” program marketing highly sought after materials available to branch patrons on a first come, first serve basis

· Implementation of the patron access and use of eReaders

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will possess public library and supervisory/lead experience in a breadth of personnel disciplines; a passion for building and leading effective teams; developing strong partnerships within the MCFL system and community; the desire to provide the highest quality library services possible, effective listening and problem solving skills, and excellent planning and organizational skills. In addition, the Library Circulation Supervisor will embrace change and have the ability to strategize; relate to individuals of all ages and backgrounds; and assist patrons with flexibility, patience, and respect. Experience with the following technologies is preferred: Library OnLine PC reservation and print management software, CollectionHQ library “stock management” software, Innovative Interface’s Millennium Integrated Library System, and MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Employment Standards): Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible library technical support experience including one year of lead or supervisory experience OR 18 semester units of college coursework in Library Technology and two years of library experience including one year of lead or supervisory experience.

TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE: Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination process may consist of a supplemental application screening, online assessment tools, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine which candidates’ names will be placed on the eligible list.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
