Position Summary: | The Collection Development Librarian is responsible for providing leadership in the selection, processing, evaluation, assessment and services of the library's collections; assists in the development and implementation of collection development policies and procedures, performs reference, liaison, and instructional duties for online students and participants in marketing and outreach efforts by contributing content to the library’s web site, blogs, and social networking sites. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: | •
In collaboration with Director of Library Services, engage in
collection management activities through assessment, selection,
purchasing, preservation, de-selection, and dispersal of collections
including making recommendations on the arrangement and location of
collections plus regularly review collection development policies and
monitor their effectiveness. • Responsible for the management of vendor services and vendor approval plans to optimize their use as a collection-building tool. • Work collaboratively to set up and modify subject profiles and electronic notification reports; monitor vendor performance and contract compliance. • Provide assistance and training to library staff related to the use of vendor collection management systems such as YBP. • Provide input to the collections budgeting process. • Coordinate the evaluation of and communication about new collection resources and products. • Play a major role in statistical data collection and analysis related to collection development and management processes. Regularly review collection key indicators, analyze pertinent statistical and other data, and prepare regular reports, as well as reports for special projects. • Maintain day-to-day operations on seminary library system acquisition software. • Design, structure, and oversee the library system budget allocations and purchases. • Coordinate library services for online students including securing resources, assigning embedded librarians, organizing online reference and implementing online information literacy initiatives. • Participant as embedded librarian in an online course each semester. • Work with Reference Librarian in providing reference and instructional services for online students. • Coordinate library donations intended for library collection. • Other projects and duties as assigned. |

Education: | Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program or equivalent. |
Skills: | • Knowledge of vendors, publishers, and library consortia. • Understanding of user experiences • Understanding practices and trends of licensed electronic resources and other digital content such as OpenURL, link resolvers, federated searching, and digital images resources or other similar items. • Knowledge of the e-resource product market, publishing issues, pricing models, and access options. • Excellent interpersonal skills. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Must be able to think creatively to address problems. • Knowledge and understanding of library policies and procedures. • Strong customer service orientation required. • Ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and colleagues in a working environment characterized by rapid change. • Evidence of initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, high productivity, and creativity. • Successfully demonstrated leadership skills. • Demonstrated competencies in managing and troubleshooting access to electronic resources, including authentication via proxy server, OpenURL link resolution, and web browser requirements. • Project management experience. • Evidence of problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills. • Experience with OCLC software preferred. • Experience with Endeavor Voyage software preferred. • Theological degree or training preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and perform effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bi-lingual skills are preferred. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. |
