Salary: $123,888 - $150,586 DOQ. With a population slightly in excess of 1,000,000, Contra Costa County is the 9th most populous county in California. The County enjoys the varied amenities of the Bay Area with world renowned educational institutions such as Stanford and UC Berkeley within driving distance as well as such recreational gems as Mt. Diablo State Park, the Napa Valley wine country and the Sierra Lake Tahoe mountain region.

The Library’s primary goal is to provide access to high quality services for over 950,000 children, teens, and adults, and to ensure the provision of collections that meet the variety of educational, recreational, and cultural information needs of all communities within the county.  The Library has almost 400 staff members (175 FTEs) and an operating budget of $23.7 million. The Director of County Library Services is responsible for the overall operation of the County Library and for providing maximum services within established budgetary limits.

Under administrative direction from the County Administrator, the Director manages all library functions, administers library policy and assesses the ongoing public library service needs of the County.

Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a graduate degree from a school of librarianship, accredited by the American Library Association; and, three years of  full-time experience in a large public library, as a Library Director, Assistant Library Director, Deputy Director or head of a major library division.
