COMMENCING: As Soon As Possible
BASIC FUNCTION:  Under the direction of an assigned Dean or Director and in collaboration with the Librarian, perform a variety of  technical and public services duties related to the processing, circulation, research and other activities in support of a designated College  or Campus library; provide assistance to students and staff for library circulation materials or in a media services center;  receive and  process requests for media equipment and materials according to established procedures; receive and process requests for interlibrary  loans; provide support to the District Distributive Education and media services.  
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
·         Assist students and staff at media circulation desk; check in and out files, videos, records , cassettes, equipment and other materials;  assist students in the proper operation of media equipment and computers as necessary. (E)
·         Issue library cards and provide a variety of technical information and assistance to students and staff in person, on the telephone,  via email, chat, text and other modes of communication related to the location and selection of library and media materials,  library policies and procedures. (E)
·         Select, train, schedule and provide work direction to student assistants as assigned; verify and monitor hours worked and submit to appropriate personnel. (E)
·         Prepare and distribute overdue notices; collect money for fines and damaged library/media materials. (E)
·         Receive and process print, non - print and electronic library materials for District - wide library services; classify print and non - print materials according to established procedures. (E)
·         Maintain a variety of statistical and financial records and reports regarding assigned area. (E)
·         Assure the timely acquisition and circulation of materials according to requests. (E)
·         Maintain library/media materials in proper locations. (E)
·         Process requests for equipment and materials according to approved procedures. (E)
·         Process and assure the accuracy of the District periodicals collection; circulate periodicals to faculty. (E)
·         Create, process and distribute inter - library loan materials according to established procedures; conduct searches by reference or bibliographic methods; verify and distribute materials. (E)
·         Catalog, recatalog and classify audio - visual equipment, electronic resources, books and other materials as assigned; prepare online materials acquisition lists. (E)
·         Proctor exams as directed. (E)
·         Assist in maintaining the inventory of library/media materials and equipment. (E)
·         Operate a variety of library/media equipment including computers & related database applications. (E)
·         Discharge obsolete or out - dated library materials according to established procedures. (E)
·         Maintain a variety of records and electronic files related to circulation activities and media services, including inter - library loans, user tracking, monies collected from fines and others. (E)
·         Create, record, edit and duplicate digital resources and instructional materials as assigned or as requested; schedule instructional programming as requested.
·         Provide assistance to students and staff in the use and care of equipment as assigned.
·         Order books and other library materials as requested according to approved procedures; receive, process and disburse shipments of materials in accordance with approved procedures.
·         Create and maintain connections to virtual audiences though social media accounts as directed.
·         Assist the Librarian and other library staff to implement mission and goals articulated in the Library program reviews.
·         Use an n Integrated Library System to perform job tasks as assigned.
·         Represent the library on assigned committees; attend workshops as assigned.
·         Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
·         Current library practices and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Any combination equivalent to an associate's degree in library science and two years library/media experience, including experience in public service, ordering, receipt, processing and circulation of library/media materials.

PART - TIME (less than .60 FTE): Part - time positions less than .60 FTE are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits. The District does however; provide the employee prorated leaves including vacation, sick leave and paid holidays. Employees less than .50 FTE contribute to an Alternative Retirement System (Apple). Employees whose, FTE is between .50 and .60 contribute to the California Public Employees Retirement System (Cal PERS).
BENEFITS/SALARY:  The District offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependent s for positions whose FTE is .60 or higher, valued at over $ 17, 000 annually with a $ 78. 0 0 monthly out of pocket expense to employees + dependents for their monthly medical premiums. The package includes health, dental, vision, one (1) life insurance policy and an Employee Assistance program. Library Associate – Virtual Branch Web Associate

Sacramento Public Library is seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to support the Virtual Branch, with a particular emphasis on web services. The Virtual Branch is the online face of the Sacramento Public Library, comprised of our public website, social media presence, eBook lending platforms and database collections.

This position is responsible for:
Maintaining the website using a content management system, including creation or modification of page templates, configuring web parts, and updating content.

Conducting usability tests, testing cross-browser, cross-platform, and/or cross-device compatibility for inconsistencies.

Gathering and compiles statistics and analytics for website, databases, social media, and services of the Virtual Branch.

Maintaining social media administrative accounts and monitoring social media channels for patron feedback.

Assisting in product testing and evaluations for digital content and research databases provided through the Virtual Branch.

Providing technical support to staff by troubleshooting access to website and databases.

Developing and conducting training for staff on eBook platforms, databases and emerging technologies.

Working a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends.

And other duties as assigned.

Preferred skills:
Experience with Kentico Content Management System

Experience with web development languages of HTML, CSS and JavaScript/jQuery

Job Summary: Performs a variety of complex and responsible paraprofessional library work requiring specialized knowledge or focus, such as multicultural services, children’s programming, library materials selection and acquisition, cataloging and processing and public services support; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work occurs in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. Normally seated, standing or walking at will. Most positions will require the ability to lift bins and boxes of library materials weighing up to 50 pounds; push or pull book carts weighing up to 200 pounds; stand for long periods of time; stoop, bend, and reach. Positions typically require frequent verbal communication, talking, hearing, sitting, reaching, keyboarding and repetitive motion of hands/wrists, and handling. Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, libraries, meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations. Position may require some travel throughout the library service area. May require working irregular hours, including evening and weekend shifts and working at various locations during the course of the workday or workweek. Interaction with library staff, library customers, other libraries, agencies and organizations, or vendors will be necessary to provide and receive information, present programs, or resolve situations or problems. There may be some exposure to angry or hostile individuals.

A valid Class C California Drivers License may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.
