Description The Librarian plans, develops, and manages a school library program which supports and helps to accomplish the goals and objectives of the total educational program. This is a part-time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Consults with the principal and staff to determine the goals and objectives of the school's library program and to establish principles of operation.

2. Maintains a library environment that is attractive, inviting and conducive to learning.

3. Establishes and maintains standards of behavior for students that will insure a positive learning climate in the library.

4. Trains student assistants and parent volunteers in library routines.

5. Keeps abreast of new books, non-print and technology-based materials and current developments in curriculum and educational technology through wide professional reading and attendance at professional conferences.

6. Services to Teachers:
a. Collaborates with staff in developing small group and/or large group curriculum activities which utilize library print, non-print and technology-based sources of information.
b. Consults with teachers on materials to be purchased with library funds and keeps teachers informed on print, non-print and technology-based materials added to the library collection.
c. Provides reference services for staff.

7. Services to Students:
a. Introduces literature through book talks, storytelling, reading aloud and author/illustrator presentations and provides reading guidance to individual students.
b. Provides guidance in use of library technology and maintains two laptop carts for school use.

8. Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

9. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements 1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

- Desire to serve as a team player, ability to facilitate groups and exhibit excellent leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, including excellent writing and speaking skills.
- Organizational and planning skills, including a strong ability to work effectively and display knowledge in the area of children’s literature.

2) Minimum educational level:

- Bachelor’s Degree required.


3) Experience required:

- Knowledge of Library Systems
- Experience in technology and library skills.
