The College contributes $11,821 toward annual premiums for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:
•Teach library research workshops and credit courses that include print and digital information retrieval strategies and incorporates emerging technology as part of the research and retrieval process.

•Provide personalized research instruction and reference that focus on critical thinking and analysis and uses technology to enhance the search and retrieval process.

•Provide focused support for the delivery of library instruction, services, and resources to diverse populations as identified in the Mt. SAC Student Equity Plan.

•Plan, develop, and provide library interventions related to information competency that addresses achievement gaps for targeted student groups.

•Identify and implement new methods, including emerging technologies, for bringing library services to targeted student groups.

•Collaborate with discipline experts as a library liaison to ensure that library resources such as books, databases, eBooks, and media materials reflect student needs, support the curricular requirement of each department, and ensures that up-to-date, relevant materials complement programs, degrees, and certificates as well as individual courses and subject areas specific to Mt. SAC.

•Collaborate with the collection development librarian to develop methods to review, assess, and develop the library’s collections to provide the resources and formats necessary to support the needs of targeted student groups.

•Establish strategic partnerships with other departments and programs serving targeted student groups by identifying outreach opportunities, developing and implementing instructional activities and services, and assessing outcomes.

•Participate in curriculum development, program advisory board, learning outcomes development and assessments, grants relevant to program, serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program, and participate in appropriate professional development activities.

•Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees.

•Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.
Minimum Qualifications/ Education & Experience:

A.The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:

1.Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science; OR

2.California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code § 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential AND transcripts must be submitted with the application.)

B.Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.

C.Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Preferred Qualifications:

•American Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science.

License(s) & Other Requirements:

The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

Conditions of Employment:

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month contract position that begins in the 2016-17 academic year.
