Description of Position
- Under the direction of the Director, Learning Resources, the Library Technician performs a wide variety of clerical and patron service duties in the College library; trains and provides work direction to student employees; and assists students and staff using the computers in the Learning Resource Center (LRC).
Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to:
- Two years college-level course work or the equivalent library experience.
Representative Duties
- Provide a wide variety of information and assistance to students, staff and the general public in the use of library systems and other bibliographic tools in assigned area of the library; assist library patrons in assessing specific materials requested; provide assistance concerning the use of audio-visual equipment including microfilm readers.
- Assist with the circulation of library books, periodicals and the maintenance of library collections and records.
- Prepare and maintain records for overdue, missing and lost materials; process overdue materials; issue clearances on returned materials; tabulate and balance monthly circulation record.
- Compile data for circulation usage statistics by category; compile data and charts of patrols use of reference room according to established guidelines.
- Provide orientation to instructors and classes on location of materials in and use of reference room.
- Assist students with use of a computer.
- Coordinate the inter-library loan process.
- Levy nes for overdue reserves and periodicals; collect payments for overdue and lost materials.
- Maintain library shelves and assign students to tasks; maintain library in a neat and orderly condition.
- Assist supervisor in maintaining a study environment in assigned area of the Library.
- Receive and route incoming mail; record magazines and college catalogs received; process materials; set up and revise display area as needed.
- Prepare reserved materials for instructors.
- Assist in processing new materials as assigned; assist with annual inventory.
- Train and provide work direction to student employees.
- Perform other duties reasonably related to the job classification.

- Ability to operate a computer and office equipment.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to communicate with library patrons.

- Ability to reach horizontally and above the shoulder to shelve and retrieve books.
- Ability to carry and lift books weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to pull and push book carts.
Conditions of Employment
- Salary is at Range 22 ($15.14 hourly / $2,624 monthly). Initial placement on step AA.
- Salary increase after 6 months of satisfactory service; increases annually thereafter.
- Minimum 5% increase if promoted.
- 10–working months probationary period.

Screening Procedure
