Job Summary

• Assists Library Manager with daily operation of the Sutter Resource Library with special concentration on the consumer health collection which provides current information on a wide variety of disease and health subjects.  Conducts research, recruits and trains volunteers and coordinates promotion of library services and solicitation of funds for the consumer health collection.  Duties are directed toward the goal of developing a better informed, more actively involved health care consumer.
• Assists the Manager of the Sutter Resource Library in providing research and information services that meet the informational, educational, clinical/administrative and research related needs of the medical and hospital staff of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Education/Experience

Knowledge:

• Discernment of accurate medical terminology is required.
• Extensive knowledge of the principles of professional library practice and procedures and knowledge of consumer health materials and services is necessary.

Special Skills/Equipment:

• Demonstrated skill in computerized database searching and the Internet required.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to make effective presentations to professional and community groups.
• Must have the ability to supervise and assign duties to volunteer staff

Education

• Master’s Degree in Library Science (ALA Accredited Institution) required.

Experience

• Experience in a hospital or health sciences library setting preferred.
• Requires experience performing PubMed searches, document retrieval, and directing physicians and patients to appropriate medical resources.
