Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian with salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Time base up to full time.
Description
This position will work closely with Cataloging Services Coordinator, Cataloging Librarians and California State University (CSU) Chancellor’s Office to provide original and contributed cataloging and data maintenance in a Unified Library Management System (Ex Libris Alma and Primo).
Responsibilities:
• Perform original and complex contributed cataloging of materials in various formats applying national standards using MARC 21, RDA, AACR2, and the Library of Congress classification system and subject headings. May contribute to foreign language cataloging.
• Work closely with other Cataloging Librarians to coordinate the workload for original cataloging and special cataloging projects.
• Work closely with Cataloging Services Coordinator to perform data clean up, maintenance and troubleshooting in the CSU Unified Library Management System.
• Assist with developing cataloging and processing policies and procedures.
• Participate in quality control for library collections.
• Maintain knowledge of current cataloging standards such as RDA, Linked Data/BIBFRAME.
• Serve on assigned committees for the Library, University, and CSU.
Required Qualifications:
• ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
• At least two years of recent cataloging experience.
• Experience in performing original and complex contributed cataloging in a variety of formats through a bibliographic utility such as OCLC, in an integrated library system.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cataloging standards: MARC 21, RDA, AACR2, and the Library of Congress classification system and subject headings.
• Familiar with performing quality control for library collections.
• Current awareness of new trends and emerging technologies in cataloging management.
• Excellent analytical, communication, problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a member or leader of a team.
• Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse campus constituencies.
• Ability to adapt to rapid change and to exercise creativity and initiative.
• Strong service ethic.
Desired Qualifications
• Reading knowledge of one or more non-English languages.
• Experience with foreign language cataloging.
