Position Description: FINAL FILING DATE: Qualified candidates should submit an application to the Human Resources

About the Position
The City Librarian will oversee Roseville’s three libraries as well as the Maidu Museum & Historic Site and will lead a staff of 45 FTE’s with
an operating budget of approximately $3.5 million in FY2011.
The successful City Librarian will have proven skills in managing people, programs, and budgets. The organization values trust, integrity,

The City Librarian will plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the activities of the Library & Museum Division within the Parks, Recreation
& Libraries Department. The City Librarian is also responsible for:
• developing and administering the budget and forecasting the additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
• involving citizenry and representing the library to the Roseville Library Foundation, The Friends of the Roseville Public Library, and
other various community agencies.
• creating and implementing divisional goals, policies and procedures as well as strategic and technology plans.
• assessing the organization, identifying opportunities for efficiency, and fostering a culture of new ideas and innovation.
• marketing of library and museum services.
• developing library, museum, and cultural programs for a diverse customer base.
• identifying funding sources for library and museum services, including grants opportunities as well as fundraising activities with
community groups and/or business supporters.
• coaching and mentoring staff, customer service orientation, sharing expectations, and inspiring trust.
• preparing presentations and recommendations to the Parks, Recreation, & Libraries Director, City Manager, City Council, and Library Board.

The successful City Librarian candidate will be a creative visionary who can identify opportunities to leverage available resources to
get things done while working as an integral part of the Parks, Recreation, & Libraries Department. The ideal candidate wants to be part
of a dynamic leadership team, is willing to take risks, and is energized by change.

Education and Experience
The City Librarian will possess a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university
and have five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional public library management experience, including the supervision, and
development of professional employees. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.

Salary and Benefits
The salary for the City Librarian from $96,107 to $128,792 annually with a 3% salary increase currently scheduled for July 2011. The City
also offers a competitive benefits package including the following:
Retirement - PERS 2.7% at 55
Management Leave Plan - up to 100 hours per year
Medical Contribution: $1116.75/month
Dental Contribution: $148/month
Vision Contribution: $20/month

Selection Process
Applications and supplemental responses will be reviewed and those candidates most closely meeting the needs of the position will be
invited to an oral interview exam (weighted 100%). Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a
City-paid pre-employment medical exam, a drug and alcohol screening test, and fingerprint check.
