General Statement:
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide proactive leadership in the overall planning, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of cataloging, acquisitions and technical services. The Librarian also participates in other essential work areas including collection development, reference, and instruction including teaching a one-unit Library course each semester. This position requires self-direction, flexibility, ability to work well with others as part of a team and the ability to adapt to rapidly-changing Library, teaching, and learning environments. The assignment may include weekend and evening hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Catalog print and non-print resources using national standards like AACR2, MARC and emerging standards such as RDA and FRBR.
2 Provide leadership and technical expertise for the implementation and maintenance of print and online resources, including periodicals, research databases, eBooks and government documents.
3. Work with College, District, multi-type consortium partners, and vendors to recommend and implement new releases and platforms and to troubleshoot technology issues.
4. Collaborate with classroom faculty and student services colleagues to design learning experiences that enhance critical thinking and foster the integration of information competency skills into discipline-based curricula.
5. Provide reference services in person and remotely using various communication tools.
6. Participate in the development and maintenance of the Library's print and online information resource collections.
7. Teach and assess information competency in a variety of formats including a one-unit information competency course (one per semester, excluding summers); Library orientations; workshops and digital instructional tools.
8. Participate in the assessment cycle for the Library including writing and evaluating student learning outcomes for Library instruction, reference service and other Library services.
9. Share responsibility for writing the Library's program reviews and contributing content including statistics and other required information for local, national, and regional reports.
10. Participate in the development and production of the Library's outreach initiatives including grant and proposal writing to support Library initiatives.
11. Participate on department, College, District and regional consortium committees as appropriate.
12. Maintain currency in the field to stay abreast of developing trends and best practices that facilitate the Library's strategic planning goals within the area of technical services including cataloging and acquisitions.
13. Commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning including the ability to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy and to share such reflection in the spirit of collaboration.
14. Commitment to ongoing professional development including participation in an initial, year-long new faculty development program.
15. Perform other duties as required by contract and general institutional needs.
