Description
Los
Angeles Valley College invites you to apply for the position of Librarian for a
full-time, tenure track, 10-month position beginning Fall 2014. The Library
seeks a dynamic, user-focused, visionary individual to provide expertise in the
effective integration of new technologies into teaching and learning and to
promote these technologies in service of information competency. Candidates
must have working knowledge of automated library systems and electronic information
resources. The primary responsibility will be for library instruction and
reference service with emphasis on current technological aspects. The
assignment includes evening/weekend hours.
Minimum
Qualifications
Master’s
degree in library science, or library and information science.
Duties and
Responsibilities
Work
to develop and maintain the Library’s instructional program, focusing on
information competency; plan, design, implement, schedule, evaluate and promote
the Library’s instructional and information competency/literacy program; teach
library science classes and conduct workshops;
Investigate
and implement emerging technologies (including e-resources); maintain and
troubleshoot library technology;
Provide
online and in person library instruction services;
Provide
regular reference assistance as scheduled; some evening and/or weekend hours
may be required;
Develop
and maintain the Library’s online web presence;
Provide
technological support for library users and staff;
Assist
in the production and maintenance of various library guides, handouts, and
instructional resource materials; develop library publications and
presentations to promote the Library and its resources;
Serve
on College governance committees;
Other
duties as assigned.
Desired
Qualifications
Additional
degree or coursework in instructional technology, educational media, computer
science, training and development, or other related field;
Excellent
interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and
collaboratively in a college setting;
Excellent
oral and written communication skills;
Demonstrated
teaching and presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively
with both new and experienced users;
Demonstrated
experience in developing bibliographic instruction and information
competency/literacy curriculum and programs;
Evidence
of a sensitivity to and understanding of diverse socioeconomic, academic,
cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Salary and
Benefits
The
Los Angeles Community College District determines placement on the pay scale
depending on verified education and employment history. Current starting annual
salary range is $49,030-$76,340. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision
insurance for employees and eligible dependents, life insurance, and (State Teachers
Retirement System) retirement program.

Finalists
