The City of Torrance is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and flexible individual to join our Librarian team!  The primary duties of this position will involve providing library programs for youth from infancy through high school age level.  Duties also include reference and reader’s advisory service, as well as outreach to Torrance area schools.

Education & Experience:
Any combination of a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited college or university, OR Bachelor’s degree PLUS either 24 units of graduate work in Library Science with a major emphasis in Children’s Services, OR a Bachelor’s degree plus three years of professional library experience in Children’s Services.

Ideal Candidate (in addition to experience and education):
¨        The ability to be creative and innovative
¨         Flexibility
¨         Excellent customer service, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
¨         Experience with grant writing, outreach, and public programming.
¨         Good public relations skills to be an effective liaison with local schools, which includes marketing youth services and participating in activities at school sites as needed.
¨         The ability to work regular evening and Saturday hours.
