Salary & Benefits
The hourly salary for this position is $21.70 - $28.74.
Responsibilities
This position is one of a team of digital imaging staff. They will be working on short and long term digital projects dealing with a range of media. They will be responsible for the inception, implementation, and completion of digital projects, which includes the creation of master images and derivatives.
• Use various types of equipment to make digital images, including flatbed scanners, document feed scanner, microfilm scanner, and digital (DLSR) camera.
• Use various types software for imaging processing
• Perform digital image capture from a range of Library materials to very exacting standards, consistently and productively
• Organize and inspect captured image files
• Handle rare or fragile originals skillfully to prevent damage
• Process files to create master tiffs and PDFs
• Transfer files to Library servers for preservation and access
• Deliver files and related technical metadata to next stage of workflow
• Communicate and coordinate with other team members and clients
• Coordinate and track work including delivery, scanning, processing, and producing final product
Required Qualifications
• Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs.
• Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
• Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
• Must be self motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
• Ability to function effectively in an environment of competing priorities, balancing important tasks, urgent tasks, and ongoing maintenance
• Ability to monitor project work flow on multiple projects simultaneously from commencement to completion.
• Understanding of image capture production methods and equipment and ability to use this information to troubleshoot systems.
• Attention to detail and very good organizational skills
• Excellent fine-motor coordination, e.g., to handle fragile paper-based originals
• Photographic skills: camera and lighting setup, alignment, composing, focus, exposure, Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw
• Flatbed scanning skills: file formats, capture resolution, color management
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of digital library projects
• Experience in a higher education environment
• Knowledge of computer, audio and video technology.
• Experience working with rare archival materials
• Specialized related technical knowledge such as: creating and judging ICC color profiles; application of FADGI guidelines; applications of JPEG2000 format; bulk calibrated conversion of camera raw files
• Specialized related photographic skills such as: specialized lighting techniques; positive conversion of scans from photographic negatives
• Ability to assess Library needs for image capture technology products and design services to meet those needs.
