Job Description: El Camino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its team. The El Camino College library is looking for an enthusiastic librarian to administer the information technology systems in the library; maintain and customize the integrated library system including all modules utilized in the ECC Library (Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation, Serials, OPAC, and Course Reserves), as well as patron upload processes, library proxy services for remote access authentication; oversee the cataloging and processing of materials in the technical services department including the development of policies and procedures related to these functions, and direct work of classified support staff. Update the Library websites; spearhead digital initiatives; work collaboratively with library and information technology staff on issues related to computing needs; gather, generate, & maintain library statistical reports; and collaborate in developing online resources. We are seeking a team player to provide vision and leadership in the systems technology area that reflects current needs and anticipates future technology trends in the evolving library and information environment. All librarians participate in Reference Desk duties, in conducting library orientations/workshops to a diverse student population, and collection development for a designated Division area. Other duties as assigned.
The position requires participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities which may include faculty meetings, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.
Faculty job responsibilities include the development/review of curriculum and assessment of learning/service outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College’s mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in library science; library and information science; OR
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California community college credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND
Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
Desired Qualifications:
An American Library Association accredited Master's degree preferred.
Two years of recent professional experience as a librarian, with an emphasis on maintenance and development of systems and emerging technologies in a college or university learning resources setting; or a specialization in information systems or library integrated systems in a Master's degree library science or library and information science program.
Proficiency in web programming and scripting languages/authoring tools including HTML, open source, web site design and management.
Familiarity with current trends and issues related to libraries, technology, and cataloging (MARC, RDA, etc.).
Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills; evidence of excellent written and oral communications skills.
Experience examining and remediating one’s instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.
Demonstrated skill with addressing issues of equity.
Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive methodologies, particularly as it relates to students’ lives, interests, and communities.

Conditions of Employment: Contract shall be for full-time, tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2018 – 2019 academic year, beginning August 23, 2018.
