Salary: The starting salary ranges from $66,598 - $91,474 depending on education and experience.

Job Description: El Camino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its team. The El Camino College library is looking for a committed, innovative librarian with strong communication and collaborative skills to lead, coordinate, and market outreach efforts to students, faculty, and the wider El Camino College community. The successful candidate will plan, implement, and assess library outreach programs across diverse college and community groups to facilitate student information literacy and address the academic support needs of non-traditional, underrepresented and transfer students. This new position will develop relationships with the library’s various user communities both in-person, online, and via social media.

Duties will include: Identifying outreach opportunities and strategic partnerships with college departments and programs emphasizing the educational and academic support role of the library in college student success initiatives; coordinating the library’s representation at college and community events; leading the library’s social media initiatives; Coordinating the use of the library’s exhibit spaces; Developing liaison relationships with the wider college outreach programs like Dual Enrollment and Honors Transfer programs; Initiating, planning, and conducting a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library and resources; Preparing surveys regarding future outreach needs and patron satisfaction; producing publicity releases, newsletters, and flyers; Coordinating the creation of library marketing videos; Further integrating library services into the Distance Education arena; Leading library outreach to diverse student groups in support of ECC’s commitment to equity.

We are hoping for a team player to provide vision and leadership in the outreach area that reflects current needs and anticipates future trends in the evolving library and information environment.

All librarians participate in Reference Desk duties, in conducting library orientations/workshops to a diverse student population, and collection development for a designated Division area. Other duties as assigned.

The position requires participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities which may include faculty meetings, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

Faculty job responsibilities include the development/review of curriculum and assessment of learning/service outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College’s mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in library science; library and information science; OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California community college credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND

Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices. 

Desired Qualifications:

An American Library Association accredited Master's degree preferred.

Two years of recent professional experience as a librarian, in a college or university learning resources setting.

Experience in developing academic library/information literacy outreach initiatives.

Experience promoting libraries through social media, integrating library resources in learning management platforms, and creating media to facilitate library access/use.

Demonstrated skill with a variety of online tools, effective marketing strategies, creativity and flexibility

Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills; evidence of excellent written and oral communications skills.

Experience examining and remediating one’s instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.

Demonstrated skill with addressing issues of equity.

Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive methodologies, particularly as it relates to students’ lives, interests, and communities.

Conditions of Employment: Contract shall be for full-time, tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2018 – 2019 academic year, beginning August 23, 2018. A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process.
