Librarian II Salary- $33.05 - $40.17/hour;
Librarian I Salary - $30.03 - $36.50/hour

Ideal Candidate
The Librarian I is the entry level in the professional librarian series.  At this level, incumbents learn and perform tasks under close supervision.  The Librarian II is the experienced, journey-level in the professional librarian series. At this level, incumbents perform the full range of tasks common to the classification series, under less supervision, while exercising discretion and independent judgment within established guidelines.

The position may be assigned to any area of library operations and may be rotated among services, such as children’s, adult reference, circulation, technical processing, makerspace, and branch library services; incumbents may direct the work of full-time and part-time staff and volunteers; as well as perform assigned duties such as reference, community presentations, program planning, collection development.

The ideal Librarian should be enthusiastic about programming and event planning, value public service and community input, and able to teach computer skills to patrons and co-workers alike.  Librarians assist patrons in making effective use of library facilities and technology; answer reference questions, including helping patrons one-on-one with technology; and provide coaching, training, leadership and mentoring to staff. Spanish language skills are desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical qualifying background would be:

Education: Librarian I (Lib. I): None; Librarian II (Lib. II):  Two years of progressively more responsible municipal library experience.

Training: Both levels require a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a Master's of Library Science from a university accredited by the American Library Association.  
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, appropriate California driver’s license and a safety driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.
