Job Description
The Library Technician under the general direction of the Director of Library, San Francisco, is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of Circulation for the San Francisco Library. The incumbent assists students, faculty, and staff with their library services needs and possesses a thorough knowledge of established library procedures and technical systems, trains and supervises student assistants. S/he works collaboratively with Interlibrary Loan, Collection Management Services, and Research Services and Systems staff located on the Alliant San Francisco campus.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a variety of circulation and resource sharing services, including being the Library staff point of contact evenings and weekends. Schedule varies and is suitable to change throughout based on the needs of the Library.

Communicate with a variety of library users, including
Alliant International University faculty, students, and staff, and community
patrons and with staff at other resource-sharing partner libraries as needed to
answer questions, resolve delivery and/or access issues, and clarify Library
procedures and Policy.
Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise student employees in
all their circulation and resource sharing tasks.
Schedule student employees, monitor student work-study
budget/earnings, and advise Library Director regarding budget and scheduling
needs/issues
Ensure smooth functioning of the library, including working
with Facilities Manager and University Information Services regarding any
building or technology issues affecting the day-to-day running of the library.
Ensure appropriate use of the library by all users,
including Faculty, Staff and Student patrons. Keeps Library Director and Campus
Public Safety informed of any potential situations at the library.
Ensuring a high level of customer service among the student
assistant staff.
Other duties as assigned
Required Education:
Associate Degree or equivalent combination of education and
relevant experience.
Required Experience:
One-two years of progressively responsible library
supervisory experience in an academic library preferred but not required.
Essential Job Functions:
The Circulation Supervisor manages the day-to-day activities
of Circulation for the San Francisco Library. S/he works to update processes
and procedures to keep pace with the changing library environment and patron
needs. Interact orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff and the
public clearly and courteously
The Circulation Supervisor helps oversee the Circulation
departments point of service, circulates library materials, and answers
questions and addresses concerns about access, borrowing, collections,
resources, privileges, credentials, and accounts. The position collaborates
with the Director to manage and maintain the condition of the library's print
collection and its accuracy in the catalog; it also ensures that the patron
databases are accurate and is responsible for the collection of fines, fees,
and the replacement of lost and damaged library materials. The Circulation
Supervisor manages the Libraries student assistant staff and is in charge of
the staffing on all shifts (e.g. days, evenings, and weekends).
Other Requirements:
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
Knowledge of the organization of academic libraries and the
Library of Congress call numbers
Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate
and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse background
Proven ability to work effectively as a team player
Highly motivated, focused and results oriented
Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal
contacts, and to maintain confidentiality at all times
Ability to manage multiple tasks according to required
deadlines
Maintain composure under high stress conditions
Ability to be optimistic, positive and supportive in all
interactions with others must have good communication with Director, Staff and
Faculty.
