enthusiastic person for the position of Instruction / First Year Experience
Librarian.
The Instruction / First Year Experience Librarian, as part of an instruction team, will focus heavily on information literacy instruction, and will serve as a local expert on issues relating to first-year (including first-generation) students, lower-division undergraduate retention, and student success.

Job Responsibilities
INSTRUCTION (55%)
Delivers effective and innovative instruction sessions; and
provides alternate learning opportunities such as LibGuides, train-the-trainer
sessions, online tutorials, or other just-in-time methods.
Teaches one third or more of the library’s lower-division
information literacy classes as part of the instruction team.
FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE ACTIVITIES (30%)
Works closely with the instruction team to deliver and
assess library instruction programs and services that target and improve
first-year student retention and success, including the development of
face-to-face instruction and programming, as well as online, hybrid, and mobile
learning objects and teaching materials.
Represents the Library in campus-wide discussions of first
year students.
Identifies and establishes working partnerships with campus
programs that contribute to the first year experience.
Coordinates and leads library participation in campus
orientation activities, summer bridge programs, and first year seminars.
Works collaboratively with the Learning and Writing Center,
Muscat Scholars Program, USF 101 committees, First Year Seminar and
first year writing courses, Residential Life, and other student services on
library orientations, instruction, and programming for first year students.
Cultivates and sustains collaborative relationships with
students, staff, and faculty in support of campus teaching and learning.
REFERENCE (15%)
Provides reference assistance in person and online to the
University communities.
Some evening and weekend hours are required.
Librarians at the University of San Francisco are expected
and encouraged to participate in local and national professional organizations;
engage in service to the USF community; serve on library and
university committees; engage in research, professional development, and other
activities related to tenure and promotion; and will have other duties
assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
An enthusiasm for teaching, and experience teaching library
research/information literacy classes or similar classes; one year of library
experience (or the equivalent), preferably in an academic library; ALAaccredited MLIS or MLS degree
(or the equivalent); highly service-oriented, and able to collaborate
positively with faculty, colleagues, and administrators. Excellent oral and
written communication skills. Commitment to advancing the university’s mission
and core values.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated record of outreach and/or programming to lower
division students. Experience engaging with campus units such as Associated
Students, Student Life, Residential Life, student organizations, etc.
Demonstrated experience working with or addressing issues of traditionally
underrepresented groups.
