The Position
The list established by this recruitment will be used to fill one current part-time (20 hours per week) position.

Example of Duties
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Locates books, periodicals, pamphlets and other library materials for patrons; instructs patrons individually or in classes in the use of library resources; assists patrons with digital resources; researches and answers a wide variety of difficult reference questions; makes recommendations concerning the work of the assigned division; reads book reviews and recommends the purchase of new books and other library materials; reviews status and condition of books within assigned areas of the collection and recommends discarding, mending or retention; may supervise subordinate personnel in the main library, branch libraries; inventories collections; acts as person in charge as needed; writes book reviews and articles; prepares subject bibliographies and promotional materials; performs other related duties as required.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Librarian I
KNOWLEDGE OF
Technical classification and cataloging methods and procedures; books, periodicals, bibliographies and reference materials.
General library functions and organization.

ABILITY TO
Classify and catalog books, perform difficult reference work.
Advise patrons and select books to meet reader's needs.

SKILL TO
Work cooperatively with other employees and the general public.
Learn the principles of supervision and training.

Librarian II
KNOWLEDGE OF
Those listed for Librarian I, plus:
Modern library organization.
Principles of supervision and training.

ABILITY TO
Those listed for Librarian I, plus:
Plan, organize and direct the work of others.
