The UCLA Library seeks a collaborative, motivated, and knowledgeable Collection Strategies Librarian to contribute enthusiasm, expertise, and strategic insight to the shared work of building collections that support and advance the research and curricular priorities of a dynamic, world-renowned University.

Position Duties
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Management & Scholarly Communication, the successful candidate for this new position will contribute to the Implementation and development of policies and practices for collection development, assessment, and management. Working closely with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders the Collection Strategies Librarian will support the alignment of library collections with the broad, deep, and evolving research, teaching, and scholarly communication priorities of UCLA and the UCLA Library.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Leads on-going efforts and new initiatives to evaluate and acquire interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary resources;
  • Monitors budget allocations and expenditures for the approximately $15M library acquisitions budget;
  • Contributes to the development of budgets for materials in all formats, seeking to ensure appropriate allocations across subject and disciplinary lines, and investments that promote open collections, emerging resource types and means (e.g., datasets; streaming), and efficiencies (e.g., shelf-ready, metadata provision);
  • Leads efforts to develop and implement user-focused, evidence-based collection analysis;
  • Coordinates and maintains effective relationships with vendors, publishers, and consortia, contributing to selection decisions, cost and license negotiations, subscription renewals, and product trials;
  • Supports advocacy with vendors, publishers, and library stakeholders to advance new models for developing library collections that integrate with the UCLA Library's open access goals;
  • Oversees consolidated approval plans;
  • Collaborates with colleagues at UCLA, the California Digital Library and other UC campuses to negotiate terms and agreements for licensing local and shared resources with vendors, publishers and other UC libraries;
  • Supports UCLA's participation in regional, national, and international consortial collaborations (including shared collections and coordinated collection development initiatives), and contributes to decision-making for UC-wide licensed resources;
  • Works closely with Library Development to identify and steward donors, collections, and endowed gift funds.

The UCLA Library seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable, user-focused, and collaborative leader to direct on-going services and shape the future of acquisitions and management of print and electronic resources for the UCLA Library. The Assistant Head of Acquisitions will join the Library during an exciting period of transformation, as we put our strategic plan into action, explore how the acquisitions function can support open access goals, and investigate how the University of California consortia of libraries might implement a systemwide Integrated Library Systems (ILS).

Position Duties
Under the general direction of the Head of Resource Acquisitions & Metadata Services, the Assistant Head of Acquisitions collaborates on strategic vision, leadership, and management of all aspects of the UCLA Library’s acquisitions and shared print services. The Assistant Head leads one of the acquisitions teams and supervises at least one other team leader.

Responsibilities


The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will perform original cataloging and complex metadata creation in multiple languages, formats, and time periods. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will lead planning, evaluation, and implementation of metadata and cataloging policies, standards, procedures, and workflows, as well as representing the library in implementing CSU-wide consortial level cataloging policies and procedures such as those related to the shared Ex Libris Alma/Primo Unified Library Management System (ULMS). Responsibilities

Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Access Services Manager provides management and guidance for circulation, reserves, and resource fulfillment (interlibrary loan) services, and supervises regular and student personnel. Qualifications

Higher education experience highly preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge or experience of access services functions (circulation, reserves and interlibrary borrowing/materials delivery) and the library management systems that support them is required. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Google Suite, personnel scheduling software, and PeopleSoft preferred. Under administrative leadership, adjunct faculty librarians will participate in the planning, implementation and assessment of library programs that will contribute to the educational growth of the college community and support advancement of the mission of the college. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting
and use standard office equipment, including a computer;

before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a
sedentary office classification although standing and walking

JOB PURPOSE


The David Rumsey Map Center (The Center) and Stanford Libraries is seeking a three-fourth time Assistant Rare Map Librarian to provide outreach and manage projects related to the Center. The Center’s collections include the David Rumsey Map Collection, Maps of Africa, Glen McLaughlin’s collection of Maps of California as an Island, and other historic maps and atlases. The Center is a world class facility that collocates physical items and their digital surrogates allowing researchers to display and interrogate them in multiple ways adding unique value to the scholarship of cartographic material. The Center boasts large high resolution video walls, a touch screen and Oculus rifts as well and a flexible space to support its programs and has one of the highest number of maps available online in high resolution in the world. In addition to being a teaching and event space, the Center has large areas to display maps and atlases in which two map related exhibitions are mounted a year. The Center is deeply engaged in collecting, cataloging, scanning, and providing access to the rare physical items and its digital collections in interesting and innovative ways.

The person in this public facing position will work closely with the Head of the Center to leverage its technology to teach classes and workshops, support research, and run the exhibition program at the Center. He or she will work with other geospatial and map staff to bring to light new and existing collections for use by scholars at Stanford and beyond. The incumbent will work closely with the Head to stay abreast of trends in cartographic information and will be a forward thinking, technologically savvy individual that is willing to partner with his or her colleagues to experiment with non-traditional ways of incorporating cartographic knowledge in the academy.

CORE DUTIES


● Teach classes, workshops, lead tours and/or give demonstrations of the Center’s resources.
● Create and develop bibliographic, reference and display tools such as topic guides and digital exhibits as assigned.
● Assist patrons and staff with reference and research inquiries by searching shelves, files and electronic resources including staffing the reference desk.
● Under the direction of the Head, and with the help of the Technology Specialist, design and run the physical and digital exhibition program.
● To participate, along with his or her colleagues, in looking beyond traditional fields of study to discover, experiment, prototype and bring to fruition new and innovative ways to incorporate cartographic information in scholarship.
● To continually seek out knowledge of new and emerging technology that could be adapted for leveraging cartographic information.
● Assist in the coordination and running of the Center’s events, including conferences.
● Act as the liaison between the Center and the Conservation Department to ensure a successful conservation program of the Center’s rare materials.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education & Experience:


Advanced Degree in Library Science or advanced degree in a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries or a combination of education and relevant experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION


The Community Services Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Library Support Staff. This is a part-time position assigned to work at any of the Stockton- San Joaquin County Public Libraries. Library Support Staff will assist customers at the Information and Circulation desks, provide support for library programs serving all ages, and may help in the Literacy and Community Education section. 

Incumbents in this position are excluded from the Civil Service system and are unrepresented.

This position works part-time as a Library Support Staff on an "on-call" basis, working up to 19 1/2 hrs per week (hours may vary week to week), without benefits.

Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to the delivery of library services support to the public; assignment may be at any of the Library's sites located throughout San Joaquin County; performs related work as assigned.  

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS


Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine library support services, including the circulation and retrieval of library materials, assisting patrons with accessing and use of library resources, and answering basic reference questions.  As increased knowledge and skill are achieved, assignments are carried out with greater independence within established guidelines.
