DESCRIPTION


Applications are being accepted for the position of Library Clerk (Homework Club Lead Assistant)- Casual/Hourly Position with the City of South San Francisco's Library Department.

The City of South San Francisco is a fully independent and highly commercialized full-service city with an estimated population of 65,710 growing to 100,000 during business hours. City departments include: Police; Fire; Parks & Recreation; Public Works; Economic and Community Development; Information Technology; City Attorney; Library; Finance; Human Resources; and Office of the City Manager. The City has a Council-City Manager form of government with more than 400 full– and part-time employees.

The Library Clerk position available is an hourly, non-benefited, temporary assignment which operates out of the Community Learning Center, a branch of the Library Department. The Community Learning Center (CLC) works with collaborative agencies to serve youth and families. In collaboration with other staff at the Community Learning Center, the Library Clerk, or Homework Club Lead Assistant, will help with the children’s activities and projects, in the belief that each child, youth and adult brings strength, talents, and skills to the learning process.  The Homework Club operates five days a week from 2:00 – 6:00 pm and serves Title I schools in South San Francisco.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Leads activities that focus on reading, writing and math skill development with the use of computers, educational games and creative group projects.
Fosters confidence, self-esteem and the love of learning in children.
Assists in the computer lab with Internet use, word processing, and computer software.
Supervises volunteers.
Leads craft activities and games.
Facilitates learning and works together with other assistants as part of a team.
Must learn and implement the goals and philosophy of the Community Learning Center.

IDEAL CANDIDATE


The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills; can be a team leader and accept guidance from supervising staff; is highly organized; can integrate computers as a learning tool; possesses knowledge of strategies for motivating children in a creative learning process; and has experience integrating and supervising volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS 


One year minimum of teaching related experience
High School Diploma or the equivalent
Applicants being considered for employment must be able to furnish proof of legal right to work in the U.S.
