Job Description
Sacramento State University seeks creative and dynamic librarians for a part-time appointment for the 2020 Spring semester. The successful candidates will report to a department head (Head of the Research and Instruction and/or the Head of Special Collections and University Archives).
• Teaches information literacy skills to undergraduate students.
• Assess the impact of the information literacy through library instruction on student learning outcome and retention/graduation rate.
• Working closely with subject librarians, designs shared instructional materials in various formats – including online tutorials, in-class activities, user guides and training materials.
• Shares responsibility for reference service in multiple modalities to students, faculty and the general public at the service desk, on demand and by appointment.
• May provide research support at the SCUA public service desk; digitizes archival materials; and processes collections.
Appointment Specifics
These are term-limited positions for 20 hours/week for the Spring 2020 semester.
Required Qualifications
1. American Library Association accredited Master’s degree, or equivalent credentials in information science or from foreign universities, earned by August 15, 2019.
2. Demonstrated teaching ability, strong commitment to student learning, and enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate students.
3. Academic preparation or experience in the provision of reference/information service at service desks, on-demand, and by appointment.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations that are reflective of a wide range of backgrounds and cultural heritage and social identities.
5. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
6. Effective written and oral communication skills.
7. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in incorporating emerging technologies into reference and instruction services to undergraduate students.
2. Experience in the development of library online tutorials for library research with specific course needs.
3. Knowledge of instructional design theory, principles and practices.
4. Familiarity and experience with assessment related to student success.
5. Experience in digitizing and processing archival materials.
