Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manages and processes course reserves and other college affordability initiatives, including applying fair use principles and communicating with faculty.
- Manages budgets and monies related to course reserves, student supervision, and related Access Services responsibilities.
- Leads and participates in Access Services cross trainings.
- Assists patrons in finding materials and resolves patron problems related to circulation functions.
- Contributes to the development of documentation and training materials; and assists in identifying opportunities for service improvements.
- Leads coordination of hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and supervision of 15-20 student workers in collaboration with co-supervisors.
- Refers patrons to faculty/staff with relevant expertise or other university support staff as needed.
- Provides information in person, via email, and over the telephone.
- Secures/closes and opens the building and maintain overall safety in the library.
- Participates in oversight of stacks maintenance, re-shelving, and updating shelf labels.
- Participates in library-wide committees/teams/groups or projects.
- Maintains patron privacy.
- Maintains department confidence and safeguards operations by keeping information confidential.
- Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.
- Supports outreach initiatives such as Banned Books Week.
- Contributes to team by accomplishing related duties as needed.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent with two years of additional related course work.
- Two years of related library or higher education experience.
- Lead or supervisor experience, preferred.
Alternatively, the following will also be considered:
- Associate degree (or equivalent) with two years of current, relevant experience working in libraries or higher education.
- Relevant certificate or degree in library science with no experience working in libraries or higher education. Students currently enrolled in such programs are also encouraged to apply.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge of generally library policies and practices associated with the the ethical use of, and access to, library and online resources.
- Working knowledge of library information technology.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative environment.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practices.
- Resolve patron disputes, questions, and problems exercising empathy and sound judgement within established guidelines.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Good independent judgment.
- Ability to maintain multiple ongoing tasks.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Aptitude to learn new and evolving technology and recommend ways to improve position’s efficiency.
- Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
- Ability to exercise discretion and work with confidentiality.
- Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Working Conditions:
Standard office setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Hours and work schedule will vary according to the needs of the University and library.
Physical Demands:
Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; may travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to manage material; climb stairs; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone, computers, and in person; push and maneuver heavy carts of material; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
