Sacramento - Sacramento County Day School - Librarian FT

Sacramento Country Day School, a leader in Pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a full-time Librarian to manage the Pre-K through 5th grade library at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year. Serving more than 550 students schoolwide, Country Day’s mission is to “inspire intellectual discovery and engage a diverse community to think critically, live creatively, and act compassionately.” The salary range is $50,000-$90,000 depending on education and years of experience.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The next librarian will be responsible for all aspects of running the library including: program management, developing and teaching lessons, acquisitions, reference, circulation, and technical services. The librarian inspires enthusiasm for reading and learning, fosters critical thinking, and empowers all members of the community to become capable readers and researchers, creative curators, and ethical users of information. The librarian works collaboratively with classroom teachers to incorporate their themes into library classes, as well as create teaching and learning environments that are warm, welcoming, flexible, and fun with a DEIB lens.

 

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

• Knowledge of and enthusiasm for literature appropriate for Pre-K-5th grades.
• Excellent collaborator with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to plan curriculum using 21st century skills that incorporate the use of literacy, information literacy, and technology.
• A growth mindset.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field required, MLS/MLIS preferred
• Three years experience overseeing library programs, daily library operations and teaching library classes in an elementary library setting. 
• Experience instructing students and teachers in the use of library resources.
• Experience developing and teaching digital citizenship curriculum
• Teaching experience is a plus.

 

School requirements include: Background check, First Aid/CPR training (school sponsored), negative TB result.
