Position Summary Primary Duties
The Interlibrary Lending/Reserve Services Lead provides functional expertise and oversees the daily operations of the Library’s Reserve and Interlibrary Loan unit. Incumbent performs specialized technical and paraprofessional library duties, receiving ILL requests, locating documents, and fulfilling interlibrary borrowing requests; and making available to students materials and readings each year that faculty have placed on reserve using the Library’s integrated library system and electronic reserve software. Additional responsibilities include serving as the primary communicator with faculty and others regarding print course readings, and coordinating the work flow and activities of student workers, for efficient and timely public access. This position will also perform administrative activities, such as maintaining and updating procedures, forms, records and statistical information, and assisting with interlibrary services lending, and borrowing, services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Overall library policies and procedures and an in-depth knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures pertaining to assigned functional area(s), and the ability to interpret them, including a solid understanding of individual work functions and the ability to adapt work procedures.
External online databases, system and resources, including the ability to perform complex online searches.

The institution’s and library’s policies and practices associated with the ethical use of and access to library and online resources.
All aspects of lead work direction including assisting in employee selection, training employees in new work procedures, assigning work, organizing work flow and establishing priorities, reviewing work, providing input to performance evaluations and promoting teamwork to optimize effectiveness.
Working knowledge of:

Library terminology and bibliographic formats and structures, including the ability to conduct a simple bibliographic search.
Library collection and its organization, as well as classification schemes.
Demonstrated expertise in creating, correcting bibliographic records.
National standards pertaining to library operations, and the ability to interpret and apply them, as well as explain them to patrons, to ensure compliance.
Library accounting and budget procedures and allocation processes, and ability to apply this knowledge to assist in handling vendor accounts and the budget process.
Campus human resource practices and payroll procedures.

General knowledge of:
Organizational structure and key functional operations of a library.
Basic library research methodology and the ability to use it.
Full proficiency in all technical aspects of work assignments, including cataloging standards.
Fluency in using standard office equipment (computers, copiers, phones) and standard office software packages such as, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to use a broad range of technology systems and software.

SKILLS:
Demonstrated expertise in using library automated system(s), especially subsystem(s) pertaining to the functional area, including database maintenance, and the ability to quickly learn and use campus library systems, as well as related online catalogs and systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to be able to prepare internal library reports and written and visual presentations on library resources and present them to library patrons, including students.
Strong communication and interpretive skills to be able to interview patrons regarding their information needs and guide them in the use of more complex library and online resources.
Strong organizational skills to oversee and lead work flow in assigned area.

ABILITIES:
Use the library system(s) and subsystem(s) module(s) to perform assigned duties.
Access various online resources and databases used within the library and to use their standard features to perform technical work and/or assist patrons.
Interpret bibliographic records.
Interpret library unit’s policies and procedures and apply them accurately in performing work functions, as well as the ability to evaluate procedures and recommend changes.
Source and apply institution’s standards pertaining to copyright and intellectual property protection to avoid potential violations.
Fully utilize standard and non-standard features of various on-line resources and standard desktop software packages, such as word processing and spreadsheets, to perform technical work or assist patrons.
Demonstrated problem solving and research skills to address standard and non-standard work problems.
Demonstrated ability to compile and present information in an organized manner.
Effectively provide lead work direction and training to student workers and an understanding of employment and payroll procedures related to student workers.
Interpret and adapt overall library policies and work procedures.
Investigate and research more complex problems, including analyzing and interpreting information.
Required Education and/or Experience
The qualifications listed above would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program, or equivalent certification.
AND
Four years of related Library experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

Full-time equivalent of two years of college or University education.
Recent experience with reserve, main circulation, or interlibrary services.
Fluent written and verbal multi-lingual/bilingual skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside and outside the library structure. Requires the need to reach, bend, carry, shelve, and retrieve books, sometimes using a step stool, which may include lifting up to 35 lbs.
