San Marcos - Palomar College - Librarian/Assistant Professor (Two Positions)

Starting salary range: $58,382.79 – $92,764.61 annually.

Description
Teaching assignments will include day, evening, and/or weekend classes at the San Marcos campus and/or off-campus locations as part of contract responsibilities, as well as distance education classes. Full-time faculty are expected to participate fully in departmental activities and college governance and hold regular office hours.

Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. Primary Function
Position One: The Librarian/Assistant Professor will be primarily responsible for coordinating library services at the North Center, and providing course-related library instruction, reference, and collection development.

Position Two: The Librarian/Assistant Professor will be primarily responsible for managing library subscriptions and electronic resources, and providing course-related library instruction, reference, and collection development.

Minimum Qualifications
Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under a) or b):
a) Master’s in library science, library and information science.
b) A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in a) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.

Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Coursework and degrees that are completed outside of the United States are required to have transcripts evaluated (evaluation to U.S. equivalency and a course by course analysis) by an appropriate U.S. credentials evaluation service. Preferred Qualifications
1. Commitment to a student learning-centered college.

3. Experience in or knowledge of community college and/or lower-division academic library information resources.
4. Experience teaching and assessing information literacy.
5. Reference experience, including use of a variety of information resources.

Additional Preferred Qualifications for Position One:
1. Experience or interest in coordinating a library branch operation, scheduling and directing library staff. 
2. Experience in collection development, including selection, resource management, and knowledge of best practices.
3. Experience creating and maintaining web pages, social media, online learning modules, and/or utilizing other related technology.

Additional Preferred Qualifications for Position Two:
1. Experience or interest in serials selection and management (print and electronic).
2. Experience or interest in selecting and managing electronic content, including online databases, streaming media, and working with various third-party vendors (e.g., EBSCO, ProQuest, etc.).
3. Experience or interest in electronic resource management (ERM), content management systems, link resolvers, discovery layers, and proxy servers.
4. Knowledge of industry standards related to serials and e-resources (e.g., ISSN, Open URL, KBART, ERMI, COUNTER, MARC, etc.). 
5. Knowledge of e-resource and subscription licensing terms and issues.

Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to library services and teaching responsibilities, other duties include maintaining regular office hours, developing curriculum, program review and planning, developing and assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in department activities and college governance.

Duties specific to Position One include:
Coordinating library operations at the College’s North Center, including directing work of library staff; participating in reference service and selection of library resources; and providing course-related library instruction.
Creating and maintaining web pages or other instructional documents relevant to assignment.
Developing library displays and programs in collaboration with Public Services Librarian, Librarians at the College’s other centers, and Outreach Librarian.
Working with Library Manager to arrange scheduling of Library staff.
Performing special assignments as assigned by the Department Chair.
Working with other Center departments to promote growth of the campus.

Duties specific to Position Two include:
Collection development and management of the library’s subscription and electronic resource collections, including print serials, e-journals, streaming media, and online databases.
Selecting resources, negotiating orders and managing designated budgets.
Working with Systems Librarian to configure, test, customize, and troubleshoot e-resources with link resolver, discovery layer, and proxy server.
Reviewing license agreements and accessibility for new orders and to ensure user access.
Developing and improving workflows for subscription management, including renewals, registration and activation, and troubleshooting access problems.
Working with other librarians to ensure content is accurately integrated and accessible through the Library Service Platform (LSP).
Maintaining online journal A to Z list.
Collecting and analyzing usage statistics.
Participating in campus closed-streaming server team.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, 10 months per year, tenure-track position. 2. This position is expected to start in the Fall 2018 semester (August 16, 2018).

3. Candidates selected for interviews will be required to interview in person at the College. Interviews will require a live teaching demonstration.
