Minimum Qualifications:
1) MLS/MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school;
2) Two or more years of professional experience in a research and/or academic library;
3) Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and trends in collection strategies and collection management;
4) Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
5) Evidence of ability to engage in research, scholarly activity, professional development and service required for promotion and tenure as a faculty member in Cal State LA, and;
6) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first generation students.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Demonstrated understanding of the role of library resources in supporting teaching, learning, research, and creative activities of the university;
2) Demonstrated experience with current digital collection architectures and platforms and/or other repository tools;
3) Experience in budgeting, planning, assessment and evaluation of library collections, and;
4) Experience in data analysis and data driven decision-making;
5) Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly communications, open access publishing, copyright, intellectual property and/or fair use.
Duties:
The California State University, Los Angeles University Library seeks a creative, collaborative and user-centered librarian to develop and implement strategies that guide the ways in which the library acquires, manages and provides access to library collections and resources that support and advance the research and curricular needs of the University. With a materials budget in excess of $1.5 million, the Collections Strategies Librarian will provide leadership for the management, development and assessment of the library’s collections, including the planning and implementation of the library’s institutional repository. The incumbent will bring a forward-thinking, innovative and strategic perspective in the library’s approach to collection development that is both learner-centered and responsive to the University’s curriculum. The librarian will exercise broad independent judgement under the general direction of the Associate Dean, and with guidance from the Dean.
Responsibilities include:
Provide leadership, vision and strategic direction for the library’s collection development program, including the development and administration of the library’s collection budget, the review and maintenance of library collections and the development of collection policies and procedures;
Collaborate with the Electronic Resources Coordinator on electronic resources license and price negotiations, vendor relations and consortial relations within the CSU;
Support library personnel in the selection, discovery, marketing and management of the library’s collections and information tools and resources;
Compile usage data and utilize metrics and other evaluation criteria to support data-driven collection development decisions and to implement practices and tools to increase the efficiency of collection management;
Evaluate and coordinate Cal State LA’s participation in resource sharing, collaborative collection development, shared print/media resources in consortial programs;
Serve as the administrator for the University Library’s institutional repository;
Collaborate with Liaison Librarians to develop and implement programs to increase awareness among faculty and students about scholarly communication issues, copyright, open access and open education resources;
Coordinate the University Library’s gift materials program, which may include reviewing and processing donations of materials;
Collaborate with stakeholders to articulate, enhance, revise and assess the vision for collections at the Cal State LA University Library.
