Description
The Digital Archivist works with the CSU Channel Islands (CI) campus to establish an effective and sustainable digital preservation program (including managing CI's Institutional Repository); actively participates in the processing and description activities taking place in Unique Collections for digital materials; and develops best practices and training in metadata for digital scholarship. Creates policies, procedures, and work flows to establish, implement, and coordinate a digital preservation program for Unique Collections. The Digital Archivist will, in turn, advise and assist the campus at large with the long-term preservation of its digital content and resources. The Digital Archivist will assist in the Broome Library's development of general collections, policies, services, and management of daily operations related to the acquisition, processing, digitization, organization, and access of unique collections. Engages in professional and scholarly activities that enhance the university, the library, the community, or the library profession; serves as liaison to other university faculty; provides reference and instruction services. 

Responsibilities
Enhance opportunities to collaborate on digital collections with regional partners;

Capture and preserve artifacts of student excellence;

Develop immersive interdisciplinary courses;

Expand opportunities for undergraduate research in digital collections including having students do hands-on research;

Preserve and publish faculty and student-faculty research, enhancing the quality of teaching, research and creative activity, and faculty publishing;

Partner with the Data & Digital Services Librarian to assist faculty from project inception to ensure best practices and best opportunity to preserve the research once completed;

Provides several hours a week of public service, which may include reference, research consultations, and outreach to students and faculty;

Teaches in the Library's information literacy program;

Serves on university wide committees;

Collaborates with faculty, staff, community, and students campus-wide on: building creative library collections and services, meeting university goals and priorities, providing unparalleled services, and sustainable systems;

Pursues scholarship as expected of a tenure-track position;

Applies advanced knowledge of digital archival standards.  

Requirements
Master's degree in library/information/archival science accredited by the American Library Association. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a full-time professional librarian or museum archivist position required.  

Qualifications
Progressively responsible experience in an academic libraries, museums, or archives, including experience working with software and best practices in online institutional repositories; proven ability to collaborate with teaching faculty or professional scholars in project management, or implementation experience working collaboratively with others in a professional environment; experience working with Dublin Core, EAD MODS, METS, or other XML-based standards; excellent oral and written communication skills. 

Must possess an excellent service orientation; be detail oriented with an ability to see the big picture, with demonstrated ability to perform workflow analysis; effective verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and colleagues; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently; flexible and forward-thinking approaches to challenges and opportunities; familiarity with advocacy for the library; dedication to research and scholarship in the field of library and information sciences. Must be creative, able to work in a fast paced change-oriented environment, and have a student-focused outlook.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. 

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the provision of library services in an automated environment; working with linked data; knowledge of contemporary issues in library services; evidence of service and leadership in the library profession. Experience implementing a digital repository program using Samvera. Understanding of copyright and intellectual property issues.
