General Responsibilities
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: coordination of library services and/or teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

The department maintains a focus on
● Developing, improving, and maintaining student-centered library services.
● Promoting equity, social justice, cultural competence, and student success through our collections, programs, and services. 
● Integrating library services with courses, programs, and the campus community.
● Fostering a collaborative work environment.

Under the supervision of the Dean of Library and Technology Services, and in collaboration with the other librarians, the Technical Services Librarian’s duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Providing leadership in the overall planning, implementation, and assessment of technical services, including cataloging, acquisitions, database maintenance, and management of the library services platform.
● Cataloging print, non-print, and electronic resources using national standards such as RDA, MARC, and emerging standards such as BIBFRAME, using OCLC Connexion and other bibliographic utilities as appropriate.
● Providing technical expertise for the implementation and maintenance of existing and emerging print, audio-visual, and online resources, including their find-ability in discovery layers and other information retrieval systems.
● Directing the activities of and working collaboratively with Technical Services Library Technicians in the areas of copy cataloging, acquisitions, database maintenance, and assorted library collection-related areas, including short- and long-term projects.
● Monitoring the Library’s materials budget and expenditures.
● Participating in the Library’s assessment efforts, including measuring and evaluating a variety of library services.
● Sharing responsibility for writing the Library’s planning documents and contributing content including statistics and other required information for local, national, and regional reports.
● Overseeing the organization, cataloging, and access of archival materials.
● Working with other Los Rios Librarians, District Information Technology staff and vendors to maintain the library services platform and to troubleshoot technology issues.
● Working with Librarians at other Los Rios Colleges to align Library system-related policies, cataloging standards, and other processes as appropriate.
● Maintaining currency in the field to stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices and assessment techniques that facilitate the Library’s strategic planning goals within the area of technical services, including cataloging, acquisitions, and library information systems.
● Participating in other essential factors of the library such as: collection development, reference, and instruction in library research and information literacy.

Requirements
1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution in Library Science or Library and Information Science completed by August 22, 2019; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Library Science; OR, the equivalent. *

2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
