Introduction
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one regular, full-time position in the class of Outreach Specialist II at the Yolo County Library. The candidate selected for this position will be assigned to the Yolo Reads Adult & Family Literacy Program, located at the Library Central Services Building. The Yolo County Library cultivates an environment that includes culture, respect and collaboration. This is a strengths based organization that focuses on fostering teamwork among staff, partners, and the community. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively develop and manage projects and demonstrate excellent public speaking skills. Position Statement
Experience working in a multilingual, multicultural environment is highly desired, and the ability to read, speak, and write in Spanish, Russian, Chinese and/or Korean is strongly preferred. The incumbent will utilize their multilingual and multicultural knowledge and experience to perform their duties and serve the community in a manner that is culturally competent and affirming.
The incumbent will be a community-oriented professional who is enthusiastic about promoting the library to a broader audience; is actively engaged with new technologies; possesses an aptitude to skillfully manage grants and projects; is confident in leading others; enjoys direct public service to a diverse population; and has a firm grasp of current and emerging library trends.
The incumbent should be enthusiastic about promoting the library to a diverse community and reducing barriers to access; show a broad understanding of, and demonstrate support for, diversity, equality, and equity for everyone in the community; and show a commitment to maintaining equitable, inclusive, and respectful environments so that every person in the organization has the opportunity to reach their full potential and is valued for their unique qualities and contributions.
Employment Standards
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Sociology, Psychology, Social Services, Public Administration, Health Education, Public Health, Communications, Recreational Science, Child Development, or a related field; AND
Experience: Two years of volunteer or paid work experience with community organizations, schools, or working with prevention and education programs.
Substitution: Six years of related work experience working with community organizations, schools, or prevention, and/or health education programs is also qualifying and may be substituted for the required education.
