JOB SUMMARY
The USC Libraries is seeking a Library Supervisor for the Hoose Library of Philosophy. Reporting to the Head of Hoose Library, the Library Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the library, supervises students, and provides customer service to library patrons. Library Supervisor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, database maintenance, technical processing, and stacks and collections maintenance and inventories as directed by the Head and within established library guidelines and practices. Library Supervisor assists the Head with planning, budgeting, and special library projects.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Under the direction of Head of Hoose Library manage circulation and collection maintenance and inventory processes, and prioritize departmental projects, goals, and workflows.
- Provide excellent customer service to patrons who use the Hoose Library of Philosophy
- Provide consistent daily oversight of the library
- Recruit, hire (and/or terminate), train, and supervise student workers
- Maintain student employment and M&S budget, and communicate with other USC libraries and University departments as appropriate
- Oversee maintenance and furniture and communicate with Library facilities and Library IT as appropriate
- Generate usage and other statistical reports as directed by the Head
- Work with other library staff on consistent implementation of library and university policies
- Assist the Head of Hoose Library in promoting and showcasing library services to library users

Minimum Education:
Associate’s Degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Minimum Experience:
3 years. Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience.
Minimum Field of Expertise:
Experience in and comprehensive knowledge of library operations. Understanding of library databases. Working knowledge of standard bibliographic and other reference tools. General knowledge of department and library activities, policies and procedures. Ability to work under pressure at a variety of tasks. Ability to prioritize. Aptitude for detail and accuracy. Ability to train and supervise student assistants.
