JOB SUMMARY


Under the direction of the Senior Dean of the San Ramon Campus, and in collaboration with Dean of Library, Educational Technology, and Learning Support and faculty librarians, the Librarian’s duties may include, but are not limited to:

1. provide vision, direction, and shared leadership in the development, delivery, and assessment of Library instructional efforts for in person and distance education;

2. establish strategic partnerships with other departments and programs;

3. take a lead role in the design, development and maintenance of the library’s San Ramon Campus web presence and web applications;

4. promote library resources, services, and programs to students and faculty;

5. develop, implement and analyze library assessments;

6. manage existing and emerging technologies to enhance library services and instruction;

7. create and present professional development activities for faculty;

8. participate in department, college committees, and the college’s shared governance process;

9. participate in regional and statewide professional library organizations;

10. maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

11. Utilizes current library technology in the performance of job duties;

12. Manage assigned library software, applications, social media, and related library technology;

13. Maintain current knowledge of technology trends and best practices as they impact academic libraries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

 

Master’s in library science, library and information science

OR

the equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications    

 

The screening committee will select for interview candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, give evidence of any or all of the following:

1. Demonstrated commitment to student learning and to the success of all students in the open-access learning environment of a community college;

2. Demonstrated ability to reduce equity gaps and ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures, and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities or varied levels of academic preparation;

3. Experience in using and/or providing support of research resources and learning technologies such as databases, integrated library systems, discovery layers, learning management systems, etc.;

4. Ability to assume leadership roles, develop programs, and plan and implement library projects;
5. Apply diverse life and teaching experiences to student learning and success;

6. Commitment to student-centered library services;

7. Knowledge of open educational resources (OER) and other textbook affordability strategies and initiatives;
8. Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively;

9. Excellent written and oral communication skills;

HOW TO APPLY

SELECTION PROCESS

  
Applications will be screened to ensure the applicant meets the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

1. The applications, cover letters, answers to required supplemental questions, resumes, unofficial college transcripts, and other supporting materials submitted by all qualified applicants will be reviewed by a screening committee.

2. Those who are deemed to possess the greatest number of desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in an interview via Zoom with the option of a phone interview. Responses to the interview questions will be rated by the interview committee.

3. Based upon the interview committee’s ratings, selected applicants will be invited to the college at their own expense for an interview and teaching demonstration. Details and instructions regarding the teaching demonstration will be provided at this time.

4. Based upon the overall rating, a small number of applicants will be invited to the college at their own expense for an interview with the college president and vice president of instruction. We estimate this will be scheduled the week of February 24, 2020.

5. After consultation with the interview committee, the college president will make the final recommendation for employment to the chancellor and the governing board of the Contra Costa Community College District.

6. Upon hire, the successful candidate must meet the conditions of employment. Finalists must provide verification of transcripts. TB test, physical examination, fingerprinting/conviction clearance and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
