JOB SUMMARY


The University of Southern California (USC) Libraries seeks a Korean Acquisitions Specialist to manage Korean language resources in multiple formats. The Korean Acquisitions Specialist is a member of the Technical Services unit and is responsible for a variety of duties related primarily to Korean acquisitions, communication with vendors, and interaction with Korean librarians and other stakeholders. Qualified candidates will be able to speak and write both English and Korean fluently.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


  •     Manages ordering and receiving of Korean language resources, including approvals, serials processing, and invoice payments. Ensures that materials are acquired through proper protocols, appropriate funds are allocated and assists and collaborates with other teams regarding cataloging, collections and/or acquisition issues.
  •     Communicates with vendors and subscription agents regarding Korean resources
  •     Orders materials selected by Korean librarians
  •     Suggests workflow recommendations and changes to procedures related to specific or departmental operations.
  •     Maintains complex serial records including the creation and status of orders, serials control, and check-in records.
  •     Communicates with various staff from the library and Provost Shared Services Controllership as needed for issues related to invoices and payments.

  •     May supervise student workers to assist in their duties and those of the unit.
  •     May oversee quality control of records on the integrated library system and external sources, maintaining the bibliographic database, and auditing and correcting entries.
  •     Attends staff meetings and participates in committees and task forces, as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
  •     Thorough knowledge of general library operations, and working knowledge of standard bibliographic and other reference tools. A general understanding of library databases, cataloging rules and procedures, and Library of Congress standards. Aptitude for detail and accuracy.
  •     Strong commitment to excellent customer service, demonstrated in part by meeting or exceeding all established quality and quantity standards.
  •     Actively participates and positively contributes to the work of teams, partnerships, and committees established in the unit, across units within libraries, or between libraries and external units and organizations.

General knowledge of department and library activities, policies, and procedures. Ability to work under pressure at a variety of tasks. Aptitude for detail and accuracy. Understanding of cataloging rules and procedures. Ability to train and supervise student assistants.
