ABOUT THE POSITION

The Learning Bus:  The Learning Bus is a free drop-in mobile preschool program of the Marin County Free Library. Our bus delivers bilingual activities that support early childhood development through exploration, stories, songs, games, art, and lots of fun! Our classes are designed for children 0 to 5 years old and provide a great opportunity for parents to engage with their children while preparing them for school. Come play and learn on our bus!   
We are currently looking for an outstanding part time Mobile Library Assistant (40 hours biweekly) to assist the Community Library Specialist in promoting the Learning Bus program and providing classes and activities that promote early childhood development and literacy to young children, parents and caregivers living in remote and underserved areas of Marin County.  The Mobile Library Assistant will assist in developing and delivering age appropriate curriculum for children 0-5-year-old, assist in preparation, set and clean up. Assist in upkeep of library, drive the 30-foot-long Learning Bus vehicle; and perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, refueling and bringing the bus to the garage for repairs while tracking maintenance and problems in the bus log. Bilingual Spanish/English skills are desirable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Our Highly Qualified Candidate: will be able to safely drive a 30-foot bus, is a highly organized team player, and is dedicated to communicating positively with individuals from a variety of socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. They will be successful in assisting in the development and delivery of age appropriate curriculum for children ages 0-5 including story-telling, education play, and activities. Having bilingual skills in English and Spanish and a Class B driver's license with air brake certification or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of appointment is highly desirable. They would ideally have experience working with young children and families and enjoy the challenge of meeting the needs of second language learners.

We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications:  Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities. Typically, two years of experience performing clerical and/or technical support in a library or community agency setting. Successful completion of related course work from a college or university may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis (30 semester or 45 quarter units) to a maximum of one year.
Certificates and Licenses:
Driving a motor vehicle is an essential function of this classification. Possession of a valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles are required.
