Description

Sacramento Country Day School, a leader in Pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a Librarian to manage the Pre-K through 5th grade library at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Serving more than 500 students schoolwide, Country Day’s mission is to “inspire intellectual discovery and engage a diverse community to think critically, live creatively, and act compassionately.”

Primary Responsibilities:

The next librarian will be responsible for all aspects of running the library including: program management, developing and teaching lessons, acquisitions, reference, circulation, and technical services. The librarian inspires enthusiasm for reading and learning, fosters critical thinking, and empowers all members of the community to become capable researchers, creative curators, and ethical users of information. The librarian works collaboratively with classroom educators, and creates teaching and learning environments that are warm, welcoming, flexible, and fun. Librarians incorporate a DEI lens in collection development and display as well as in curriculum and event planning.

● Knowledge of and enthusiasm for literature appropriate for Pre-K-5th grades.

● A natural rapport with children and understanding of their developmental needs

● Ability to plan curriculum using 21st century skills that incorporate the use of literacy,

information literacy, and technology.

● Strong leadership skills.

Qualifications/Experience:

● Bachelor's degree required; MLS/MLIS strongly preferred.

● Three to five years experience overseeing library programs and daily library operations

in an elementary library.

● Experience instructing students and teachers in the use of library resources.

● Experience developing and teaching digital citizenship curriculum

● Makerspace experience, a plus.

School requirements include: Background check, First Aid/CPR training (school sponsored), negative TB result.
