This is a part time position, typically assigned 15 hours per week with no minimum number of hours guaranteed.


Essential Functions:
  • Provide direct public assistance at public service desks; assist library patrons with the general use of the library and respond to informational and ready reference questions.
  • Instruct patrons on the use of library equipment, including computers and printers, and photocopiers.
  • Assist patrons in the selection of books and materials
  • Participate in the development and delivery of library programming, including paraprofessional support, such as performance of library story times.
  •  Select books and other materials for featured displays; create signage for programs.
  • Assist in development and implementation of library policies and procedures.
  •  Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.



Qualifications:
  • Experience performing public service in a library and working with children and students.
  • An AA degree is strongly preferred. A Library Technology certificate and 2 years of equivalent public information desk library experience may be substituted for the AA degree.
  • Knowledge of training in the use of standard library procedures, methods and policies.
  • Knowledge of basic application software for personal computers such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet.
  • Knowledge of basic reference tools; both print and non print.
  • Knowledge of library technical and electronic resources; basic trouble shooting techniques for library equipment.
  • The ability to assist library patrons in material selection; answer a variety of general questions regarding library use; present children’s programs; conduct tours and speak in front of groups.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
