Location Shasta Public Libraries


Overview:
  • High school degree or equivalent; some college desired.
  • Public service and previous Children's Library experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of current children's literature is desirable.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children is essential.


Responsibilities:
  • Assisting patrons in all aspects of circulation including registering new patrons, modifying patron records, checking out, discharging, renewing materials
  • Accepting fines, fees, payments, and interacting with patrons by phone
  • Basic reference services, computer and technology skills, and ability to work as part of the team
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population and assist circulation supervisor with additional tasks as needed
  • Under supervision of the Youth Services Librarian: the candidate will assist in preparation, or independently plan activities, such as storytelling or art projects; will assist the public in using both print and electronic resources; will assist with circulation duties, programs, the general maintenance of library collection and materials, and may conduct school tours.


Qualifications:
  • Previous library experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and strong verbal and written communication, as well as technology skills, are essential
  • Must be outgoing, customer service oriented and willing to quickly adapt to a fast paced library environment
  • Work well with staff and a diverse population
  • Flexible scheduling is required which may include some evenings and weekends
  • Position may require long periods of standing and the ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Candidate should possess ability to apply current Library technology and automated services in selecting appropriate materials, resources and services to assist customers. Candidate should possess the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in serving the general public.
