Temporary Library Technician - Circulation


Location San Francisco

The Temporary Library Technician - Circulation provides access to the library collections at the
circulation desk at the California College of the Arts Simpson Library in San Francisco. Additional duties include shelving books and monitoring and maintaining the order of the library stacks and reading areas.

This technician works closely with the Public Services Manager and the Night and Weekend
Supervisor. Regular hours during the academic year are Sunday 2-6pm, Monday 4-8pm,
Tuesday and Thursday 3-8pm. Summer and intersession hours will fall within the hours of
Monday-Friday 9-5.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • % of time 90% Circulation Desk Coverage
  • Handles circulation transactions for library materials, following set circulation policies and procedures
  • Creates and edits patron records in Koha (ILS)
  • Answers basic informational and directional questions by telephone and in-person
  • Answers basic technical questions related to use of the computer lab, scanners, printers and photocopier
  • Supervises reading room and stack areas during evening hours, maintaining order and cleanliness
  • Re-shelves books
  • Works with Facilities and Public Safety to maintain library security and safety of patrons.
  • 10% Material Processing and other duties as assigned
  • Processes library books and periodicals
  • Other collection maintenance duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Library Technician coursework or certificate, or equivalent work experience in a library.
  • Ability to work independently, follow set procedures and guidelines, and be attentive to detail and accuracy.
  • Public service orientation with good communication skills for working with students, faculty, and staff.
  • General aptitude with online and digital technologies.
  • Able to lift and move heavy items, to stand or sit in a stationary position for long periods, to stretch and bend to reach heavy books on shelves.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • Bachelor degree
