Summary
The Access Services department at Stanford University Libraries (SUL) seeks a creative, energetic, and focused individual to fill the role of Library Evening Operations and Course Reserve Specialist.

S/he will work at the Circulation Desk at Stanford’s Cecil H. Green Library, and ensure the proper flow and availability of library materials to users. S/he will provide excellent customer service by charging and discharging library materials, answering questions, providing technical and computer assistance, issuing access and borrowing cards to affiliated scholars and fee borrowers, taking payment for library fees and fines, and processing new materials. S/he will be called upon to successfully interpret and communicate SUL policies and procedures and develop a rich and varied knowledge of SUL resources and University services.

In support of Course Reserves, the Specialist will process materials for Course Reserves, update students and faculty about the status of requested materials, and perform inventory management of the Course Reserves Collection. S/he will also assist in compiling and generating department statistics.

JOB PURPOSE
The Library Specialist may be assigned several duties within one or more functional areas of the library. Performs tasks under general supervision, exercising some initiative. May supervise hourly employees and oversee the day-to-day operations of a branch library or library.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Two-year college degree plus one or more years of experience in an academic library, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience with direct interaction with patrons
Demonstrated supervisory experience
Demonstrated computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheets and communication software such as email
Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills
Able to apply judgment in choosing procedures and evaluating alternatives
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks accurately and efficiently
Possess strong communication skills in English
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work well under pressure
Record of excellent attendance
