Job Summary
This position reports directly to the Head of Special Collections and University Archives. The department acquires new library materials, works of art on paper, and manuscript and archival collections in analog and born-digital formats. This position is responsible for processing all formats of manuscript and archival collections through all stages, from accessioning, arrangement, and description to cataloging. Assists with book and print collections. Collaborates with SCUA staff to plan the goals and priorities for collection processing and digital projects. Provide training to students in library functions and in arrangement and description. Oversee stacks maintenance and supply ordering. Shares responsibility for the maintenance and location information for cataloging records. Creates finding aids in ArchivesSpace and export these to the Online Archive of California. Assists with the creation and installation of exhibits. Works at the public service desk and assists with reference inquires and ILL requests.

Required Qualifications

EXPERIENCE
1. Two to three years of related library and/or clerical experience.
2. Experience using library systems and/or complex databases.
3. Experience in accessioning and processing manuscript and/or archival collections.
4. Experience with drafting documentation of procedures and providing training to others.
5. Experience in public service work.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
6. Proficiency with standard office software packages and systems (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Office 365) and the Internet.
7. Knowledge of Archivists Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, or other archival data management system.
8. Demonstrated knowledge of DACS, MARC, and EAD encoding.
9. Knowledge of metadata standards (MARC, Dublin Core, MARCXML).
10. Knowledge of digital reproduction of photographs and other documents.
11. Ability to investigate and research complex problems, including analyzing and interpreting information.
12. Strong communication skills.
13. Demonstrated ability to train, supervise, and manage student employees, interns, and volunteers.
14. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others in a team environment.
15. Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills with the ability to meet deadlines and ensure regular workflows.
16. Demonstrated strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications
18. Proficiency in the use of the library management system Alma, including Analytics, and of Primo, the Library’s discovery tool.
19. Society of American Archivists awards or certificates.
20. Experience with XML editing tools and born-digital formats.
21. Experience in stacks management.
22. Experience in digital collections processing, data migration, and/or digital curation.
23. Knowledge of appraisal of manuscript and archival collections.
24. Bibliographic and/or reading knowledge of foreign languages.
25. Experience in creating and maintaining collection and donor files.
26. Experience in taking meeting minutes and doing student scheduling.
27. Experience collecting statistics.
28. Experience in ordering supplies.
