Job Summary
Under general supervision the Reference/Circulation/Reserves Library Assistant is responsible for representing the University Library to all UC Davis Blaisdell Medical Library (BML) patrons; and interpreting and enforcing unit, department and library policies and procedures.
Responsible for opening the Library Monday through Friday. Provide reference assistance, instruction on using Library catalogs, databases, and the "Request" feature for ILL/DDS.
Responsible for all circulation related services including monitoring, approving, or denying requests for the collaboration room reservations. Ensure e-bulletin boards are up to date. Monitor and process Reserve requests. Provide minimal support for Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Services (ILL/DDS).
Minimum Qualifications
Library experience and general knowledge of library information resources, functions and procedures.
Experience and skill navigating e-online systems, catalogs and other data bases essential to Circulation functions and with automated Library systems including understanding of bibliographic and serial records sufficient to retrieve online and print records, and to verify citations using the Library's resources.
Interpersonal and communication skills to interact successfully in person and via telecommunication with a wide variety of people and an emphasis on providing good customer service including the ability to effectively explain complex policies and y to remain calm and exercise tact and compassion when dealing with difficult individuals.
Writing skills to compose correspondence, training materials, instructions and manuals.
Experience using word-processing, spreadsheet and database software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel and Access)
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to maintain confidentiality when preparing sensitive material, taking messages, and accessing patron records.
Skills to perform minor maintenance on office and library equipment.
Math skills to compile statistics and perform calculations, report and enter data.
Knowledge of General Library practices, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable University policies and procedures.
