Work Schedule
Monday – Thursdays 9 am to 6 pm, one shift 10 am to 7 pm; Fridays 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; one Saturday a month 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Schedule may adjust based on the Library's needs or programming schedule.
THE POSITION
The Santa Barbara Public Library System is seeking a customer service oriented Senior Library Technician – Library Marketing Specialist who is flexible, creative, and has a passion for public libraries.
In support of and in cooperation with Library Administration, this position is responsible for implementation of marketing and communications strategies for the Santa Barbara Public Library including branding, program and service promotion, and social media account coordination. The Library Marketing Specialist will be the lead in the monitoring of SBPL's mission, vision, values, brand identity and reputation in all consumer-facing media channels, and print/digital promotional content. This position requires a high level of creativity, attention to detail, organization and adaptability to changing priorities daily. The ideal candidate will show demonstrated success in designing digital and print marketing materials from start to completion with limited supervision and is well-rounded in social media and website content management. Like all SBPL staff, this position will also focus on modeling excellent customer service at the public service desks and supporting all ages programming and community education. The most successful candidates will be dynamic individuals who have experience working with a diverse public (including children, teens and adults), keen attention to detail, and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of
Public Library services, organization, technology, and equipment. Library program development, promotion and implementation; commitment to outstanding public service; Microsoft Office Suite; Google Suite; Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; excellent creative writing skills; proficiency in photography, videography, and post-production using professional photo and video editing software; experience with public relations and writing press releases; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of Adobe Create Suite.
Experience / Training
Associates or Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, communications or related field preferred. Two – five years of professional experience in graphic design preferred. Sample projects required. One – two years of professional experience in social media preferred. Examples of professional accounts you have managed will be requested. Familiarity with DSLR photography and video production.
