Position Overview:
The University of California, Riverside seeks a proven innovative and
visionary Instruction Coordinator/Reference Librarian to lead and expand
its library instruction program in the humanities and social sciences.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of the Rivera Library Reference Services
Department, the successful candidate plans, develops, coordinates,
promotes, assesses, and participates in the Rivera Library’s user
education and instructional programs in the humanities and social
sciences. The programs include course-integrated instruction, workshops,
orientations and tours. Collaborates with faculty, as well as with
other library and campus units to develop and integrate information
competency elements into the curriculum and virtual campus environments.
Creates and maintains instruction materials and tutorials designed for
today’s learners. Investigates and incorporates emerging instructional
practices, methodologies, and technologies. Analyzes data and suggests
and implements changes to achieve the goals of the department, the
Libraries, and the University with regards to recognized information
literacy standards or other learning outcomes. Provides reference
service and research consultation to a diverse user community in the
humanities, social sciences, and arts, using a wide array of electronic
and print resources. Participates in regular in-person and digital
reference service provision. Some evening and weekend hours are
required. Serves as subject specialist for one or more subject areas in
the humanities, which includes faculty liaison and outreach, in-depth
reference, collection development, instruction, and management of the
assigned collections budget allocation. Participates in library-wide
activities, administrative committees, special projects and library
programs. Represents the UCR Libraries in UC-wide, regional and national
forums related to information literacy and library instruction.
Required Qualifications:
Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited
institution or equivalent; recent experience providing reference and
instruction in the humanities and social sciences in academic libraries;
one or more years of academic library reference experience; strong
commitment to public and research services; evidence of effective
teaching presentation and communication skills in a variety of settings;
demonstrated experience in providing instructional design solutions
within a learning management system (such as Blackboard or Moodle);
demonstrated skill in program development, implementation, assessment
and evaluation; knowledge and understanding of best practices in
pedagogy and information literacy; commitment to working in a collegial
environment; excellent organizational skills; demonstrated high level of
initiative and creativity; demonstrated ability to work and communicate
effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years related humanities collection development experience;
undergraduate or graduate degree in a humanities discipline. UCR
librarians are members of the Librarians Association of the University
of California (LAUC). Research, publication, and/or service to the
University and profession are expected for continuing advancement. This
position is represented by the University Council – American Federation
of Teachers.
Salary and Benefits
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience within a range of
$49,464 - $70,956. Appointment at rank of Associate Librarian I to
Librarian I depending upon qualifications and experience. Excellent
