Reporting to the University Librarian,
serves as Deputy University Librarian (DUL) and Chief of Staff for the UC Davis
University Library. DUL exercises independent judgment in collaboration with
the UL. With the University Librarian, the DUL has responsibility for the
University Library's engagement with UC Davis administration and academic
community. The position works with campus leaders and administrators to
contribute to university-wide and UC systemwide initiatives. Represent the UC
Davis University Library within UC Davis, UC systemwide groups, regional,
national, and international research library organizations. Interpret the
Library's contributions and needs to constituencies within the Library, on
campus, throughout UC, and to the community at large. Create, manage, and
participates in strategic initiatives that promote the Library's resources and
goals, and advance collaborations with faculty, students, and other clients and
libraries. Assume responsibility for the Library and its activities and
operations in the UL's absence.
As senior director of Library's operations and coordinator of senior staff, i.e., the executive leadership team that includes Assistant and Associate-level Directors, department heads, program managers, consultants, etc., the DUL has overall responsibility for the structure and oversight of the staff system and activities. Coordinate and oversee all University Library operations, including library-wide program and management authority. The DUL will advise the UL on operational and staff issues to establish priorities and develop policies, and to deal with issues related to the Library's operational and staff activities.
Provide strategic and other long- and short-term planning for the Library's services, budget, facilities, and capital projects. Develop, manage, and analyze the Library's assessment programs, including the generation and interpretation of data to inform the Library's service, collection and investment decisions and to illustrate the Library's value to the UC Davis community and beyond. Oversee the Library's communication strategy for both internal and external audiences.

Travel, including overnight, in state, nationally and internationally.
Provide own transportation to off-site events and meetings.

Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science, MBA, or equivalent.
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a large academic or research library.
Successful record of exercising progressively more demanding leadership and management skills and abilities in academic or research libraries and a minimum of 10 years of management and/or supervisory experience.
Experience with successfully developing, managing and completing large, complex projects and programs in a library or similar environment.
