Duties of the Position:
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Digital Technologies and Resource Management, the Head of Collection Management Services provides dynamic, progressive leadership to the department. The head oversees departmental activities such as collections management and purchasing, licensing, facilitating access to licensed content, discovery services, cataloging of materials in all formats and physical processing of materials. The incumbent will be expected use Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo which is used by all 23 Libraries in the CSU System.

Additionally, the position:
• Provides effective supervision and leadership for the department while fostering a work environment that coaches and mentors employees in a manner that contributes to their individual career goals, the profession, and the organization.
• Supervises operations for cataloging and processing of print and non-print resources, special collections/rare books, government documents, including monographs, serials, and databases.
• Oversees the collection budget, approval plan profiles, license information, collection policies, gifts, and other fiscal resources in consultation with library faculty.
• Leads and manages acquisitions activities including purchasing, licensing, and facilitating access to licensed content.
• Conducts regular assessments of departmental services, workflows, and operations.
• Assists in developing effective reports and messaging for other library and university administrators to understand the library’s materials budget needs.
• Determines priorities for processing and preservation of materials.
• Responsible for metadata support for the library’s scholarly communication program.
• Acts as the library’s liaison to the CSU Affordable Learning Solutions program.

Required Qualifications:
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in information/library science or international equivalent.
• Minimum five years of successful and increasingly responsible professional experience in collection development or cataloging services.
• Strong knowledge in BOTH of the following areas with expertise in one:
1)Cataloging: performing original and complex copy cataloging applying knowledge of cataloging standards such as RDA, LC/PCC PS, LCC, LCSH, MARC21, AACR2, CONSER, and authority control;
2) Collections: collection development in an academic research library, including knowledge of current and emerging trends.
• Ability to provide leadership and vision for Collection Management Services.
• Experience with budget planning and expenditure analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and supervise library personnel.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and colleagues.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems, vendor cataloging services, authority control services, and automated routines for bibliographic maintenance.
• Experience working with institutional repositories, digital libraries, and/or finding aids.
• Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
• Awareness of current practice, research, and trends in library scholarly communications.
• Experience working in a consortial environment.
• Experience working in a union environment.
• Record of professional service and scholarly accomplishments.
